How terrible are college loans in America?
I often hear Americans complaining online that the interest rates on their college loans are so high that it could take you 20+ years to pay them off.
If you have a low salary, it can even be crazy to think that after 10 years of working, your college debt has even gotten bigger.
So why are student loans for American universities so expensive? This.
The college loan debt problem is one of the reasons why STEM is starting to decline in the US right now.

They are a total scam. Universities get the money with no risk. 'Students' are just temporary channels from the government to university administrators and their salaries. Generally, you should never take a student loan in the US.

Is it really a debt trap?
Ensuring that you will always be poor, like a slave, sucked dry by vampires?

Because our economies have been hollowed out by neoliberalism, so there are fewer and fewer "good jobs" which can support a good standard of living, and higher education is usually a prerequisite for them, so the schools know they have everyone by the balls and can charge whatever they want

In many cases, yes. If you get a high-paying job, then not necessarily. But as we have seen, high-paying jobs are difficult for younger people to obtain these days.
