I love Greta.
I love Greta Thunberg so, so much, like when you see a superhero in a comic book but then you find out they are actually real and walk around in the same world as you. To me, Greta is like a brave friend who stands up in class when the teacher asks a hard question, except her classroom is the whole planet Earth and everyone is listening. When I think about Greta, I imagine her holding a big sign in the rain and the wind, and she doesn’t run away or hide. She just stands there, small but strong, like a little candle that doesn’t blow out no matter how hard the storm is.
Sometimes I pretend she is like the captain of a ship made of hope, sailing across a giant ocean of problems. She shouts, “We have to take care of our home!” and even though she is young, everyone hears her voice bouncing off the waves. When I see her speeches, I get goosebumps because it’s like she is telling grown-ups, “You can’t just play with the Earth like a broken toy you have to fix it!” And I want to help her, even if all I can do is pick up trash, plant trees, or tell my friends that the Earth is important.
I love Greta because she reminds me that you don’t have to be big or powerful to make a big difference. You can be small, and still roar like a lion. I think if she were in a storybook, she’d be the little character everyone laughed at in the beginning, but in the end, she’d save the whole village. She makes me feel like maybe I can save the world too, even if I’m just one person.
When I grow up, I want to be as brave as Greta, to stand tall even if everyone around me says, “Sit down.” I love Greta Thunberg because she gives me courage, and courage feels like sunlight in my chest.
