Because it is completely false. Majority of blue collar workers are not clearing 65k a year based on a 40hr/week schedule. Most are making from 47k-58k/year It is even worse for those on the manufacturing side.
I been a shopsman iron worker for 6 years. Unionized and everything. Highest paying shop in the midwest payscale caps out at 34$/hr as a fitter/welder. Thats with a 2$/hr bump for working nights. Most of the tradesmen clearing 65k/year are working 45-55hours/week and getting a lot of overtime pay.

The problem I have with the trades is having done one, they really are not paid ENOUGH. It almost feels intentional. They hype these tradesmen up, getting to brag to other people about their paychecks. But the paychecks are still really small given what you have to do.
