For example, it's illegal for the USG to spy on Americans. But somehow it's been declared completely fine for corporations to spy on US citizens, and for the USG to buy the info acquired through that spying.

Trump showed how useless that brand of Republicanism is in the 2010s after Romney's embarrassing campaign. Fuck the first amendment. It's been grossly misapplied ever since incorporation. The first amendment didn't protect individual free speech, it protected the STATES ability to regulate it . Same with religion. It protected the STATES ability to set up state mandated religions. America was founded as a union of 13 Christian Nationalist states, with the bill of rights protecting those states from the Federal Government, so that they could regulate speech and religion as they pleased.
