My grandfather was in ww2 and most definitely had PTSD, they just didn't talk about it, he drank and threw things at people. I feel sorry for the guy, since he was the greatest man I ever knew, but he was definitely scarred from it. He did get a bronze star though and was captain of the local VFW too. The drinking didn't help though.

WW2 soldiers did get PTSD, though it went by shell shock at the time. However the symptoms were frequently lesser because of how those soldiers returned home. Travel by boat was slow and it gave time for the soldiers to talk to one another and make peace with what they went through. Fir 'Nam soldiers returned home by plane. In less than a day they were back home and dumped into civilian life still processing what they went through without the support of shared experiences.
