There's a couple ways it can be used properly but it is VERY RARE to find someone using it properly;
1) in formal debate, well poisoning is smearing your opponent to the audience---ironically most shill use of 'well poisoning' is literally this kind of 'well poisoning' (by claiming the organic poster is inorganic or whatever).
2) in infowar parlance, well poisoning refers to ceding a target community with easily-debunkable memes that are later often automatically debunked with bots to discredit the targeted community.
3) shills use 'well poisoning' to claim a targeted position is 'wrong'--without having to actually refute it's claims--by suggesting it's so outlandandish as to somehow hurt our collective credibility (on an anonymous racist porn forum-/pol/ isn't a porn forum perse but you get my point).

Since that trend won't reverse itself by 2028, and then the Electoral College will get rejiggered due to the 2030 census which is looking even worse for Democrats now, Republicans will control the White House until 2045 at the earliest. Democrats will be like the fucking Green Party.
It's not unprecedented. Democrats were in full control of the government for decades at a time in living memory. And parties have collapsed and been replaced by other parties before too.
