Why do Americans seem to identify so strongly with their race/ancestry rather than American culture, or regional culture?

They dont. Most people identify as being American above all else, then their State, and then lastly their race.

True American culture is intertwined with white European ethnicity. The constitution was made with Anglo Saxon people in mind. America was created by white people, for white people.

Because the population of people that started this country is no longer around 90% so now we can't feel like we have a claim to it so people search for identity in their ancestry since being a white American doesn't make you more American even though it should and it does

I often hear Americans refer to themselves as Italian or Irish, which seems like a form of appreciation for their ancestral roots. Nothing wrong with that.
