Regardless of whether it's true or not it kind of rose out of necessity for a "lawful good" kind of religion instead of the bleakness of paganism. I'm not well-read but I don't know of any obscure pagan religions that offer the kind of salvation that Christianity does (Pagan niggas feel free to educate me).
