Nation is race. family is race.

nation is defined as : a country considered as a body of people united by common descent, history, culture, or language, inhabiting a particular area or territory.

COMMON DESCENT is the key here. and despite the new orellian word play there, just speaking the language isn't good enough.

as a side note, culture, is also race. it's not the hat you wear or the music you listen to, it's the hat your geographically isolated racial group made, and the music they played. it's the food they were able to grow, with the seeds native to the land. think of a culture in a petri dish, it's one organism, it's not a bunch of different organisms lumped together.
