China can't invade Taiwan. The best they can do is run a blockade.

America does not have the ships or the capacity to build enough of them to counter a blockade. America and its strategic ambiguity tactic know this.

The whole shift to INDOPACOM is a meme. China has the technology, capacity and manpower to absolutely destroy the US and its allies in Asia. Just imagine what the expected life expectancy is for anyone stationed near the Chinese mainland.

If the Chinese make a move, the US will de-escalate and give up Taiwan instantly. The real war is about preserving Japan, South-korea and the rest of the allies.

China has used our people to train their own, 1337 our databases to run their weapon programs and otherwise just used the fuck out of us to enable their economic, military rise. Countering China for real is something we have not begun. They are trying to, but the lead China has is enormous. I'm not a China shill, i just dont see enough being done to counter the rise of China. We are decades too late to create meaningful deterrence and we still have trillions invested in China. Going up against the world's factory in a game of deterrence will bankrupt the West like it did the soviets.

Numbers dont mean shit if you cant utilize your units effectively. Every ship in the navy barring a very few has been deployed in combat zones multiple times. Every flag officer has decades of combat experience. There isnt a single Chinese soldier or sailor that has seen combat. Right now the united states has an advantage over China. Superior submarines, superior command structures, superior firepower.

But that won't last. China has recruited Western pilots to train their own, same with their navy, intelligence and all the rest that goes into a functional military. Their primary investments are in area-denial weapons designed specifically to counter US power.

War planners at the army and navy war colleges had been game planning the war on the Eurasian steppe for decades prior to the end of the cold war. They're doing the same for preventing a landing invasion by the chinese in Taiwan. American advisors will also be coordinating with their Taiwanese counterparts as I write this.

I don't want the US to get involved, its not worth it, but it's not an easy calculation for China. Their mainland will get hit a lot harder than the US mainland. They have a noose of air and missile bases around them. The US also has a much more warlike culture and who knows what sorts of plans are in place for this situation. China simply does not have the experience coordinating huge amounts of sophisticated war machines in a combined arms approach. Look at how poor Russia's air force has performed in Ukraine despite their huge numbers and clear superiority.

A protracted war actually favors the US too. People talk a lot about China surpassing the US in industrial capacity, and they are correct, but China's capacity would be devastated in the initial salvo. China then has to struggle with the fact that they are net importers of food and energy whereas the US is a net exporter of both, and has way more friends and partners, including in China's backdoor.

There are many more internal problems within China than they would ever admit to. The CCP is inflexible to say the least. Their culture is one of "saving face" wherein it would be absolutely crushing to lose even one battle. I can agree that US culture is superior when it comes to warfare. Also that the outcome would be unpredictable given the lack of experience on the Chinese side.

But the way I see it, there is a country of a billion people that is actively seeking to undermine the West's world order and is putting tonnage where its mouth is. I fully embrace the idea that our ace is our superior air forces and determination when shit hits the fan. But the way China has grown and its capacity to copy our technology, hire our experts and otherwise build new technology is an unknown factor.

Clash of Civilisations. Considering the Chinese are helping the Russians and see them winning as essential, considering they have also resorted to havana type hybrid war campaigns. I mean, we are facing a juggernaut of a country that is aided by our nemesis, which has also adopted a lot of its grievances.

A cold war-style game of deterrence with a pseudo-capitalist country that has over a billion people will be a challenge that is far greater than that of the soviet union and will cost insane amounts of resources.

I wouldn't be surprised if they move entire supply chains out of Taiwan and into the west. Constructing FABs is incredibly complex and difficult. Current projects are hitting supply chain issues like crazy. Taiwan is a one-of-a-kind place when it comes to producing what they do, right now.
