These things are useless for near engagements. They're designed for longer ranges. Yes, the ammunition is intended for defeating body armor also - but they're absolute garbage for occupation, where threats will necessarily be right on top of you.

The actual bonus of .277 is, especially with the new optic, greatly increased the average soldier's ability to engage at distance, something the military has always lacked. The army trains for 300yd and in, the marines technically train for 500 and in but dont even have to hit that far to qual. Trained civi's (hunters, competition shooters) can do 600yd or more and in if they actually take the time to learn and you can easily learn to engage past 1000 yds if they put some extra practice. So the civi's only advantage over the military is range, the .277 greatly reduces this advantage. 5.56 doesn't give as accurate shooting out that far, and you have way more issues with wind that the average. 308 or 6.5cm. .277 is just as good or better, and their 1-8lpvo tells you the hold you need to make for different distances, so you can quickly return accurate fire at 600-800yd with your biggest issues being windy days or inherent inaccuracy of the rifle. Which is still as accurate as most hunting rifles.

I think it’s a mistake because heavier ammo means less ammo. You want lots of ammo. Chances are, an enemy unit in hard cover won’t be vulnerable to small arms. It’s going to be grenades or heavy weapons like a 30mm IFV canon. What you want is lots of smaller rounds to suppress an enemy position so your grenadiers can advance and assault the position or the enemy is locked in a firefight and you can roll up heavier weapons such as a mortar or an assault gun.
The infantry man is support for the unit as a whole. The individual elements of the unit is support for the infantryman.

All the ammo comes from the same manufacturers. That was even used against us when biden had the department of defense buy up a fuck ton of ammo while there were already coof shortages to price civilians out of ammo. Also, the cartridge itself is more expensive due to its needlessly complex design just to accommodate extra pressure that accomplishes nothing. And no military ever throws out all their old weapon overnight. So switching cartridges does inevitably complicate logistics.
But, most importantly, the rifle and cartridge are trash that are going to get replaced even more quickly than the m14 the second they're put to actual use. One of the driving reasons behind the muttification of the military is to ensure that these soldiers have no attachment to the people they're killing. As it stands most white soldiers will naturally hesitate or even defect outright when faced with shooting their own white countrymen. A brigade of spics and niggers (many of whom are already violent gang members) rolling through a white town will have no second thought as they brutalize and murder people. Especially combined with propaganda searing into their minds that these white people are the enemy and pose an existential threat to them.
The one good thing is that the less white a fighting force is, the less competent it is.
