Because there’s no statute of limitations for, well any crime in the UK. Stories about actors, tv hosts, musicians whatever will always go to criminal prosecution, meaning the news can’t be sued if they write a story about it.

Basically, in the USA or many other countries for that matter, it wouldn’t be possible to charge [creepy celebrity] for example with a crime because it happened 30 years ago. So the news can’t report on it without being sued for libel.

Basically other countries have it just as bad but it never gets to that level. Also the UK threshold to charge someone is very low. Russell Brand for example has been charged with no evidence, I think, maybe I’m wrong.
