It clearly started yawing when the pilot added collective (and went up) which makes sense, as the rotors are biting hard. I don't know why you would increase collective if you were losing yaw authority though, you'd just want to get it down as quickly as possible. I guess it was just a natural reaction, trying to clear the trees. Bad decision though since a crash was inevitable. Increasing collective and then pushing cyclic forward (which is what the pilot did) is retarded.

I can't really blame them because it all happened so fast but the best course of action would have been to keep reducing collective and land/crash while the uncontrolled yaw started to increase. No, the little blade on the back of the helicopter stopped spinning. Likely because a bolt was sheered off, or was torqued too lose, or some part broke from bad fabrication/smelting or the like and broke the rotating shaft which spins the little blade. That caused the ONLY thing on the chopter to decide its going to go do its own thing and leave that giant fucking spinning blade to start spinning the body as well.

The pilot just reacted trying to go up for asplit second and sealed his doom as the only right answer was to power down and hold onto his seat. But he only had like 1.5 seconds to figure that out so fat chance. And such controls would have done NOTHING on this crash for that pilot as this was a physical break someone on the machine which you can see on the tail rotor before it stops spinning.

To make a functional quadcopter the size of a helicopter, the complexity of drive shaft (or potentially separate engines on each quad) would make it too large and too inefficient to be a viable replacement for a helicopter. Regarding an "auto hover" system, those do exist and drone helicopters are a thing. Not sure why you would want one on a helicopter if you have a decent pilot though.
