Historically, scientists didn't have a problem with spiritual or religious understanding. The two often went hand in hand without particular conflict. This extreme focus that you can't be religious and smart at the same time seems to be some modern illness, and probably reflects the general retardation of people. It’s important to keep regarded people religious. Yes, smart people are more likely to be atheists, but smart people are generally wise enough to not commit crimes either because they’re capable of having their own internally consistent morality or they just want to avoid going to jail.
