Issue with the West isn't supply, it's that housing prices are driven entirely as speculative investment vehicles by firms and agenices along with landlords and boomers who view housing as no different from how Millennials view Bitcoin.
No amount of supply can stop housing prices from going up, because housing price inflation isn't actually tied to anything real beyond speculation.
UK for example has had positive housing growth compared to population for a long time, but prices still skyrocket because firms are buying out all the apartments and houses and are sitting on them to boost prices.
Basically you can't solve the Western housing crisis without the Government stepping in and stopping buy to rent/let, bringing in LVT and vacancy taxes and this will likely require the Government to engage in funding a lot of housing development.

jej when I was looking for a house double wides were commanding identical prices to stick houses, purely sqft x interior decoration level. an absolutely normal doublewide with decent flooring was exactly the same price as the same squarefootage stick home with similar flooring. Everything is shallow surface level bullshit.

But, because of that, I was able to get a big old stick home for cheap as shit. The prevalence of doublewides in rural areas depresses the sale value of stick homes substantially.
