THE $41,454 HEAD START: How Foreign Tech Workers Use Tax Advantages to Price You Out of Housing
Most Americans have ZERO clue this system exists. While you're forced to pay FICA taxes that fund Social Security and Medicare, foreign graduates on student work visas get 3 YEARS of this tax break in our most competitive job markets - keeping cash that's automatically taken from your paycheck.

THE MATH THAT HURTS AMERICANS:
β€’ Tech salary: $200,000 (Google, Amazon, Meta)
β€’ American graduate: Pays $13,818/year in FICA taxes $186,182 take-home
β€’ Foreign graduate on OPT/STEM OPT: Pays $0 FICA taxes for their work period $200,000 take-home
β€’ That's $13,818 EXTRA CASH per year $41,454 total advantage during their work authorization

THE REAL HOUSING IMPACT:
This isn't about future benefits - this is about immediate buying power. This is a different battle from the institutional investors buying up properties - this is about individual buyers with a government-given cash advantage outbidding you directly. In tech hubs like Austin, Seattle, and Bay Area:

>Even 100 foreign workers with this advantage = $4.1 MILLION in extra buying power
>They target the same starter homes and condos as American graduates
>Your mandatory FICA contributions become their down payment advantage
>They get liquid cash now while your money goes to government programs

THE BOTTOM LINE:
They pay income tax like you do, but keep the 7.65% FICA tax that's automatically taken from your paycheck.

Whether Social Security will exist for millennials is uncertain - but their $41,454 head start in today's housing market is absolutely certain. That cash advantage lets them outbid you on homes RIGHT NOW.

This is why you're getting outbid.
This is why housing feels impossible.
This is the immediate cash advantage they don't want you to know about.

Here's a foreign worker at a tech company (Oracle) asking a simple question:

>"I won the H1B visa lottery, but I have 2 more years of my student work permit. Should I DELAY getting my real work visa to avoid paying $10,000 in taxes?"

The comments tell you everything:

>"Just don't file it and save on taxes."
>"Deciding to apply later... can activate H1B few years later while still holding on to the lottery spot. Sorry."

THE SCAM, IN THEIR OWN WORDS:

1. They win the visa in the lottery.
2. They then INTENTIONALLY DELAY getting the visa for years.
3. Why? To keep their special "no payroll tax" status.
4. They openly discuss how to dodge thousands in taxes that YOU are forced to pay.

They see your Social Security and Medicare taxes as an optional fee to be avoided. They see our immigration system as a game to be manipulated.

This isn't a secret conspiracy. They're bragging about it right out in the open. They call it "saving on taxes." You call it getting screwed.

Here's a foreign worker on Reddit, complaining about finally having to pay the same taxes as you:

>"I just won the H1B visa lottery. Now that I have to start paying Social Security and Medicare taxes like an American, should I ask my company for a RAISE to cover it?"

The responses are even more telling:

>"Don't mention FICA... Just ask for a raise based on your performance... you can bring this up on the side."
>"Correct, nothing wrong in asking... but expect BIG eyerolls from HR. Gotta pay US taxes now unfortunately."

FICA stands for the Federal Insurance Contributions Act. This U.S. federal law mandates that employers withhold taxes from employee paychecks to fund Social Security and Medicare programs.

LET THAT SINK IN:

1. They get a multi-year tax break you never see.
2. The moment they're forced to contribute like everyone else, their first thought is, "How do I make my American employer cover my new tax bill?"
3. They strategize on how to hide the real reason and pretend it's about "performance."

They see paying into the system that funds our retirees and healthcare as a personal financial loss to be recovered. Not a civic duty. Not the cost of living in a first-world country. A pay cut.

This is the entitled mindset you're competing against.

It’s also why Indians now dominate quickstops and gas stations, even in rural Mississippi. Once that three years tax free is almost up, they transfer ownership to other family. Meanwhile, they’re chain-migrating more family over. Ever notice how it’s never just one man and his wife, perhaps an older child? Never. It’s always clumps of Indian men in these operations. To add further drain to our economy, they only hire their own. Once a gas station is purchased by an Indian, you can say bye bye to all of those jobs for Americans.

The tax dodge you're smelling is the E-2 Investor Visa grift. They aren't just "transferring ownership," they're gaming a non-immigrant intent loophole.

An Indian national drops $100k+ into a gas station, gets his E-2. The trick is the business must be "marginal" - just profitable enough to support the family, not show massive gains. So they run it on a skeleton crew of cousins on payroll, everything gets reinvested, and on paper it barely breaks even. No substantial tax revenue for Uncle Sam.

Right before the visa expires, they "sell" it to a newly-arrived brother-in-law for a nominal sum, who applies for HIS own E-2. The business never hits the radar for serious corporate taxation, and the cycle repeats. It's a perpetual motion machine of chain migration and tax avoidance, all blessed by the State Department. They're playing a completely different game with rules we wrote for them and meanwhile they have been keeping this under the radar for years, if not DECADES.

Meh, I was on a J1 student work visa in the US many years ago and while yes, you don't have to pay medicaid and medicare, I always ended up having to pay a fuck ton of money after filing my taxes, more than if I wasn't exempted from those 2 taxes.

The problem is when we have third-world invaders coming en-masse and exploiting the loophole over and over again and using that to maximize their own situation. The intent of this was to be fair to foreigners but Indians have exploited this system taking away high-paying jobs and furthermore using tax loopholes to buy up properties en masse across this country. It's a double-whammy.

>it's all so tiresome
Easiest thing at this point is to outright ban India, I would take it a step further and ban trade with India as well because they'll probably find some loophole to smuggle humans into the US.
