Im an engineer with a masters degree and I cant get a fucking proper job. The industry is so fucked in Germany, that nobody hires a qualified person like me. I tried everything, even applying in the Netherlands, but it didnt work out. I was ready to move and it still doesnt work. No company is hiring right now and the jobcentre is starting to consider jobs "outside my expertise" and im losing my mind. I didnt study for 6 years for some fucking low paying shitjob, you fucking assholes. I remember when I got my degree in 2007.
"You will all have good paying jobs!" said the fucking dean to us. I did. Until last year, when the economy was in shambles.
It is really bad. 3 of my friends also lost their jobs, albeit in different sectors, and they also couldnt find a job. Our economy is fucked beyond repair at this point.

At this point im going to take my savings and open a fucking barber shop or dönerladen. Since these turkish pricks all drive fancy cars and have expensive clothing. i search for a new job since a year, but they have so many people to pick from currently, they go for experience and specialized people. my old boss never bother to send me to any. and the person from our version of the job center don't see the need for this so if i would want to take my free time to get a additional education i would have to pay myself. i almost lost it when he told me no need for special training for my field and on the next appointment he was asking if i'm interested in "entry schooling" for a less payed job as warehousman because is some special program they launched.

I have to be honest with y'all, there is always a job market for those who have hard skills + soft skills. It sounds to me like many of you lack soft skills, but expect to sell yourselves on hard skills only despite there being no business environment that runs only on hard skills because the human is a complex animal.

I got a friend who's running an oveworking biz in Germany. Basically takes devs, pay them really well (100k and above : for europoors it's a lot) and then staff them on x3 remote projects at the same time.

I guess you need to be good, but it's very well paid. It doesn't seem SWE struggle a lot from what I see of his hustle, but there's that.

I gave up and dropped out of college over a decade ago because I could foresee this happening to the economy and I didn't want to waste my time getting a degree for nothing. Sadly I was right, but I made the right call because I was studying computer science and we have all seen how that sector turned out. Since you graduated before 2008 though I don't blame you for being optimistic about your degree and field at the time.

why specifically an engineer? There are so many areas that need an engineering mindset, especially in the trades. Especially if you're self employed and have to figure out how to do shit well and efficiently.

Sure, focus on something you like, but also keep it real and go where the work is. Friend of mine, str8 outta Realschule, got an apprenticeship there. Three years. Then got "freigestellt" to study. Got his bachelor's, the his master's degree. Went str8 back to Siemens and has been working there at ever INCREASING easier jobs.
He's been taking EVERY offer to get stocks on discount he could get since he was 16. He's turning 40 this year.
Oh yeah and he works from home half the week even nowadays.
Siemens has been a retirement home & spa to him from age 16.
