China gets its oil from two primary sources now. Venezuela and Russia. Obviously the target is their access to oil. The problem with the Chinese not having proper blue water naval power is they can't enforce anything globally except through economic pressure. If/When their supply of dinosaur squeezings runs low, they'll either pull a 1940s Japan, or just crumble from the inside due to infighting among government and business officials within their borders.

Even if the democracy never happens they've still at least disrupted oil production and shippments to China at least temporarily and proved they can do so whenever. If the democracy does happen its a long term victory but either way the US should gain something out of it. Of course the worse case scenario is that Venezuela starts lobbing missiles at the ships and actually hits stuff, somehow.
