SSRIs correlate with higher suicide rates
among the literally hundreds of other issues they cause
meanwhile there are dozens of other homeopathic or non-invasive therapies that are proven to work just as effectively

you are better off getting your thyroid checked, T3, T4 levels, full blood panel and start supplementing anything missing
do you exercise?
do you go outside every day?
do you have healthy relationships with any friends or family?
do you eat healthy and have a good sleep schedule?

SSRI turns people into NPCs. They become these vague blobs who just sit and watch TV and overeat. ADHD drugs is just low dose amphetamine, it will make boring shit a bit more interesting.

As a cocktail it will make your life slightly more tolerable, so you don't have any impulse to fix all the reasons why your life is intolerable anymore.

They carry a high risk of sexual side effects, possibly permanent.
Can make you stop feeling feels, possibly permanently.
No studies of safety or efficacy longer than 12 months of use.
Increased risk of suicide
Barely outperform placebo in independent (not funded by drug company) trials
Withdrawal effects your doctor probably won't tell you about, like akethisia
They still don't know how they work to treat depression (serotonin theory of depression was mostly a marketing ploy and has been deboonked)

Please don't listen to these people. If it means anything, I've been taking Prozac for like 4 months and am doing well on them. I felt really depressed for about a week or two at the start, but it has since resolved itself. Taking that leap was one of the better decisions I've made in my life recently. I waited six months before finally taking them because I was SO SO worried about the side effects. I personally don't notice any side effects currently. Worst case scenario, the side effects are bad enough that you just stop taking them and try something else.

OP, the longer you wait to finally take the help, the harder you're going to kick yourself for not having taken it in the first place. If people like you or I were equipped to deal with it ourselves, we wouldn't be struggling in the first place.

SSRIS are like taking a Sledgehammer to your brain , I'm always flabbergasted at how angloid doctors seem to hand those to anyone who walks into their practice.

Around here, SSRIS are only given to people in active psychosis, delusional Schizos, acutely suicidal etc. pp, unless you have something actually wrong with you on a brain level that stuff is far too strong.

I don't know what your exacty symptoms and problems are, but everyday shit like depression and anxiety doesn't warrant full blown SSRIS , but talk therapy, either behavioural against the anxiety or psychoanalysis for deeper causes.

The point is that those pills don't do anything to address the fundamental cause of your issues while making you addicted to medication that actively changes your brain chemistry in partially unpredictable ways.
In my mind , thats fucking crazy unless all other options have been exhausted with no success, and doctors in Europe seem to concur as casually throwing around that kind of medication before even considering therapy is absolutely not common here.

Increased risk of suicide during SSRI treatment is generally found in studies not funded by the pharmaceutical industry.
Decreased risk is generally found in industry-funded studies.
It's that simple.

This meta-analysis isn't the one I was looking for but similar to one from ~2016-2017 that showed increased suicide rates in adolescents taking SSRIs according to UK NHS data.

Who knows, the general rule is you don't take medicine unless the thing that is ailing you is going to kill or maim you. They have no idea how any of this shit effects the body long term, the interactions are too complex and the understanding of how the body functions is too rudimentary, you're a lab rat.

The most likely cause of depression is you live a shitty life, pills aren't going to fix it for you.

Do not under any circumstance take ssris. They will help. For 6 weeks. Then, you'll be even more depressed than you where. Stop taking them and you'll be lucky to not fucking kill yourself.
The only cures for depression that exist are a good diet, an active lifestyle, and not being surrounded by shitty influences. So if you don't eat a whole foods diet, exercise, and have a bunch of negative people in your life, start here.
Get diagnosed with as much shit as you possibly can. Do not take any medication for it though. Rack up the proper doctor diagnosis, then file for all the free government programs you possibly can. Get disability. Get free/cheap housing. Food stamps. Cash assistance. Everything you can.
Congratulations, you're retired.

I’ve been taking then on and off for years. They help, but eventually you’ll run into 2 issues:
1. They lose efficacy, so you need to raise the dose until you get to a point where the negative side effects outweigh the benefits
2. The longer you take them, the less your able to function when you’re not on them.
The first adhd med I took was vyvanse, for three years straight. At the very end I was on 70mg with an instant release adderall for the end of the day and I was sped out of my fucking mind to the point where I said I can’t do this anymore, so I quit cold turkey and for the following year I basically could not function beyond waking up, going to work, coming home, eating, and going to sleep, that simple routine exhausted just about every ounce of my mental energy. Couldn’t play a video game, couldn’t do my hobbies, didn’t even want to talk to people. If I hadn’t have just so happened to move back with my parents at the time idk what the fuck I would have done

The withdrawal symptoms were so brutal it took months until I could go a day without puking or feeling violently sick, and I am still as incapable of cumming as I was when I was taking it.

My dear sir, I must protest this notion of imbibing these so-called SSRIs prescribed by the physician, for it is akin to willfully extinguishing the very spark of one’s intellect! Picture, if you will, the mind as a grand, modern engine of thought, whirring with the vivid complexities of life’s ecstasies and tribulations. Yet, to partake of such remedies is to yearn for the dulled simplicity of a bygone abacus, a mere calculating contraption from the 1800s, devoid of the capacity to grapple with the soul’s turbulent peaks and valleys. I say, it is an affront to the vibrant machinery of the human spirit, reducing its splendid operations to a monotonous drone, unfit to entertain the grand drama of existence!

Depression and anxiety were once thought to be caused by a chemical imbalance namely lower levels of serotonin hence SSRIs were created but it turns out that's not what causes anxiety and depression and SSRIs for the vast majority of people are only as just slightly more effective than a placebo and the SSRIs also don't work the way they thought they did they work by essentially numbing parts of your brain like the amygdala so it's less effective aka not working properly none of the medication seeks to treat the cause just try and mask it and enrich the doctors and the companies that create the pills along the way avoid it at all costs

I'm going to assume you're a man OP.

I have also been diagnosed with clinical depression.

Women doctors largely don't understand the male brain and depression medications are basically all unscientific pseudo-science.

You likely feel depressed and anxious because you lack a mind and body connection paired with a lot of life success.

Easiest way of treating this is lifting weights daily. Exercise will help balance hormone levels and act as therapy whilst giving you growth and strength rather than deterioration with age.

You should get blood tests to check overall health, make sure they check testosterone levels and thyroid function. As a man, TRT will act as more of an antidepressant than any ssri, mood stabilizer, snri, etc. If you're low test, that can be a good option.

But before any drug, you need to get in the gym every day and try to do therapeutic work, which for men is creating something. Maybe it's doing a woodworking shop class or learning to weld.

Remember these are the same doctors that suggest trannies cut their dicks off.

Lifting weights and stretching is how you treat muscular injuries. Go to physiotherapy and they'll show you some movements. I got into bodybuilding after a workplace back injury had me going to the gym for treatment.

you're depressed living in a sick mentally ill society that gives you 0 fulfillment. Apparently from your other posts here you're crippled as well? You're in deep shit but frying your brain on medication that has already been proven total bullshit will not help you (main study used to justify it referenced by all future studies was literally found and proven to be fraudulent)

You need to seek inner peace, not an artificially medicated brain state. Smoke some weed if you find life unbearable and choose to go the substance route. Spend time in nature in a natural environment, collect disability and start pursuing some kind of intellectual interest. Don't listen to doctors about your mental well being, they have absolutely no clue about this, and if by some miracle you find a good doctor, they would not prescribe this trash to you.

dont do it
I went on SSRIs out of desperation when I was having physical health problems likely caused by mold that were used by doctors as a Trojan Horse to prescribe SSRIs for "panic attacks"
I was on them for 6 months and they fucked my shit up
not irreversibly from what I can tell--had some of the more enjoyable years of my life after getting off that shit and normalizing, due to improving my overall health mostly via diet and exercise and getting an air filter for my bedroom + occasionally taking antihistamines
in hindsight it's possible that the way that they fucked my shit up might've actually benefitted me in some ways in the long run, but I still wouldn't do it again if I had a choice
the worst thing was how little they made me care about things which are otherwise important to me. I completely stopped talking to everybody and stopped caring about sentimental things. threw away a lot of sentimental possessions and burned old journals, which I will never get back. it was like taking a peek into th emind of a woman and now I understand what drives so many of them to be completely heartless cunts

Do not take SSRIs. All they will do is make your depression and anxiety worse. You may feel dull and convince yourself they are working, but all they do is encourage loathing yourself. Try doctor prescribed at home ketamine therapy with something comforting to listen to. If you slip into a khole, don't panic. This is where the best stuff happens and in my opinion is an awesome experience. While in this state and coming out of it, ask yourself what makes you depressed the most and focus on confronting your thoughts. Whenever I get prescribed for a month for 3 times per week it is $400 flat. It isn't a cure, but it has helped me tremendously. I am now at the point of not doing it often anymore. I don't even do cognitive therapy. I highly recommend anybody who suffers from chronic depression to try it at least once. Ignore the trolls on here.
