Factcheck: Boomers had it harder
John Stossel just factchecked the meme that young people can’t buy homes when boomers could at their age. The only reason millennials and zoomers can’t afford homes is because the homes are bigger, fancier, and need to have more luxuries. Boomers didn’t live that way. They bought smaller homes with less amenities. Zoomers and millennials refuse to do the same

True. My dad had to work a whole summer to buy a 68' Mustang GT. Same as steve mcqueen's car in Bullitt

What the fuck? The homes they bought are still mostly standing and they're just as astronomically overpriced as any others, often more so. I paid 200k for an 1100sqft ranch built in fucking 1960 3 years ago. And it's off a country highway. What fucking retard.

$200k homes are starter homes. That’s what? 2-3x your annual salary?

I might not have the high score, but you need $1300 a square foot for a condo in a white area in Los Angeles. Make it $2000 if you want to buy a SFH. I rent - my wife and I earn $450K combined and refuse to become burglary targets in the Mexican neighborhoods we can afford.

For some reason, they stopped making starter homes. For some reason, homes went from being a reasonably priced to being exorbitant. For some reason, what used to be a necessity for a proper society, became seen as a investment opportunity.

Could it be because of people like this guy? Status quo defenders, who are willing to suck up to the monied class for their scraps. No I'm sure that had nothing to do with it. Instead the youngsters are just lazy. Bootstraps after all. Just keep tugging on them, eventually it will work. Just trust him.

It's obvious that the conflation of one's house with one's retirement nestegg has completely destroyed the future well-being of anyone born into this society after 1970. We need to reform how home equity lines of credit operate in order to curtail the boomer

My 900 square foot home with 2br/1ba is worth $1,500,000. The neighborhood was built in the 40s to be somewhere returning GIs could live. Even if I live less than a mile to the beach, that's utterly retarded.

>Boomer family buys new house in their 20’s on a single blue collar income.
>50 years later, Boomer sells house to successful millennial couple for over a million
>Boomer buys new McMansion
>“Houses are bigger now, skip the avocado toast you spoiled brats”
Stossel is a hack who just throws together bullshit to be contrarian, no matter the topic.

The solution was 2008: mass foreclosure and fire sales.
But instead we got bailouts and QE.
