>tariffs aren't working
This implies tariffs had some goal they were trying to achieve, and they failed at that goal

Tariffs didn't have a goal. Trump literally just likes the word "tariff". He's stared this many times.

Rust belt is called that because all the manufacturers turned to rust after it was ALL outsourced. Some minor resellers or a machine shop tweeking runs of metal are not 'manufacturers', as the ly don't actually make anything as they import all the product as well.

The only manufacturers that actually make anything rather than resell are on government contract and have to due to laws. And many of them still import blanks thru shell companies.

Well if this imported goods suddenly cost 100% more in the marketplace then they can't compete with lower priced ones. So either the supplier has to reduce costs or they remain unbought. You can also put in very restrictive laws with regard to how the goods are produced. You could say any goods where workers are paid poorly, have poor working conditions are not allowed and you could even make it so the likes of China, India etc are targeted for their shitty conditions.

China is essentially all gov contracts as all the companies are simply CCP fronts. The whole idea they have is to drive all other competitors out and then corner the market. Long term plan would be to then buy up most of the property and then. Of course that isn't a lot different than what kikes and others do anyway but they don't have the numbers on the scale of China. India is another one that could well copy the design.

He advertised them with two goals. To bring back jobs to America, and to force negotiations to reduce trade barriers with other countries.

These goals are mutually incompatible. For 2 to be true, the tariffs must be temporary and won't force 1. For 1 to be true, the negotiations are in bad faith since the barriers will remain.

It's amazing how fucking terrible he's at this game.
The way tariffs work, is that you have local production either being currently already in a planning stage, or already built, then you slap in the tariffs to make people buy local.
Production doesn't come back just because you decide to tax your own people more via artificially inflating the prices.

Overused meme, and it comes from people who misundestand the appeal of donald trump in the first place. Basically, they hate you and don't trust your side to govern anything. They're so fed up with the post industrial economic status quo and globalization that they'll happily tolerate increased prices and other inconveniences if it means that condescending liberal freaks aren't going to grab their guns, do weird social experiments in schools (lgbtqia+), and tell them to downsize their lives and live in the Stone Age for "climate change." This is the real problem Democrats have: they are left in the position that they've painted themselves into. It's retardedly expensive to build that kind of mass industrialization here, and pay American workers a decent wage with benefits. The companies know this, and that it'd take like 3-6 years to even get a factory running, and much longer to ever see profits to pay back the massive debt of construction, land acquisition, labor, permits, approval, and likely shit loads of lawsuits from NIMBYs. Or just wait it out until Trump goes away and and it's back to normal.
