So... I live atop a mountain in a rural Whiteopia and I have outside cats. Sometimes the cats get into fights with cats and other critters. Sometimes they get hurt.
When one of my cats gets bit or injured bad enough to where it looks like they might get an abscess I start medicating them with amoxicillin. (I've learned to not wait. If they look like they are injured I treat them anyway. It helps them heal more quickly.)
What I do is I take a 500mg amoxicillin and I break it down into eight similar size piles. (The proper dose for an adult cat is about 70mg.) Then I put the antibiotic in their food. I usually run them through 2 whole pills at two doses each day. Sometimes I'll front load them a little on the medicine and sometimes if it is bad enough I'll give them a third amoxicillin.
This is a fool proof plan for helping cats heal quicker when they are injured and helps them avoid abscesses. (It also keeps them out of the vets office and saves a bunch of money because vets charge a whole lot to treat abscesses.)
Happy Monday, everyone!
