If ever there's been compelling historical evidence of a lie it's when a government starts arresting people for not believing it. I think a targeted genocide happened but it was mostly outside of the camps. Why would Germany spend resource to transport and house a person, just to kill them? They could've shot them where they stood and kicked into a hole for a fraction of the cost. They did in fact do this, so what was the goal of sending them to the camps?
It seems like what happened in the camps was egregiously over-exaggerated by 1-uppance and fictionalizing accounts to extract as much moral currency as possible. I think more realistically Jews didn't leave Germany a lot of options other than detaining them as an enemy of the state, same with the Japanese in the US. The US would've had a similar situation on its hands if all supply lines for food, electricity, and heating were cut-off. Seems like the camps were likely intended to house enemies of the state and utilize them for labor until the conclusion of the war, when they could be exiled internationally or used for bargaining. Then as supplies started to dwindle death ran rampant through the camps and burning of corpses turned into an industrial chore. I'm sure some of those barely clinging to life were thrown in the incinerator, as I'm sure there were some sadistic people working the camps.

It's a shitty thing that happened that's been exploited to the furthest extent possible by a fundamentally parasitic and dishonest people. So... mostly bullshit.
