For the most part the same reasons that migrants are discriminated against anywhere. They created a surplus of labour that allowed the fuckers in charge to go for employing the lowest bidder. There was also resentment due to the Irish being used by the democrats in NY to maintain their stranglehold in the city. Tammany hall helped the Irish get their citizenship sorted out and made sure the city or other key businesses gave them jobs (the police especially) and homes and in return the Irish were told to remember who helped them get set up in the US and who could take it away if need be. The Irish also didn't like the blacks and vice versa as they were both near the bottom of the social ladder the Irish slightly better off on average so any advancement by blacks was going to be at the expense of the Irish. While not a universal position a lot of Irish were not keen on the Union in the civil war for this reason.

Outside of labour issues in America and new England in particular the people were protestant. The Irish were mostly catholic and there was a deep concern that the Irish man even of the 2nd or later generation would put his duties to the pope and his church over any loyalty to the United States. Indeed their concerns about loyalty to the best interests of the US were raised again after the civil war with the fenian brotherhood using the US as a base to attack Canada to provoke a UK-US war which would have led to the British leaving Ireland.

The resentment against Irish while not going away for many decades decreased as other migrant groups and African Americans became more noticeable in Americas cities. Italians, Jews and Germans had their turns being treated with suspicion and the Chinese and Japanese migrants made the Irish look acceptable by comparison.

My younger cousins all talk like Americans thanks to YouTube I guess.
Growing up here you always have the prospect of your visa to America being denied if you ever break the law, it’s honestly hilarious. That’s how parents scare their kids straight. I never gave a fuck about going to America but there were even anti drink driving PSAs targeted at young people where the main take home was that you can’t get a Visa to go do your J1 in America with a criminal conviction.

In ulster, it's native non-anglo brit admixture. Obviously the planter population is going to have a much higher percentage, and even a small amount of anglo, but in the grand scheme of genetics ulster is about 60-40 Native Irish and native briton. If you go to specific places like the middle class areas of Dublin, you'll actually get a significant Anglo admixture. But that's a rarity. You might get 10-20 percent English in other Eastern parts of Leinster but for the country at large it's not much of a thing. In Scotland, the major components are Irish, Briton and Norse. To a lesser degree you get Anglo in specific areas

Theres a major effort to use Irish people and the slave myth in your cringe American cultural wars. I've seen images of Victorian era Welsh kids in coal mines being used with some text and bullshit claims about Irish being slaves in America and the first slaves to shit up niggers on the Internet crying about slavery. It's not true at all that Irish were slaves like niggers were. Irish were indentured servants and had a fixed term of service like any other indentured servant coming from Britain or Europe. You could say that indentured servitude is a kind of slavery but it's not the same kind of slavery that the blacks in America had. The blacks probably had it better because they were property whereas the indentured servant had a fixed term of 7 years until their contract ended.
