Do you think a Mars civilisation is actually possible in the next 100 years?
Or is it just a billionaire lark?

I don't think Earth civilization will be a thing in 100 years. Neoliberalism has brought all of civilization to its fucking knees.

realistically you could probably only move a few dozen people to mars at a time, so it would be settlement rather than a civilization

it will never happen because of gunderson doctrine, when a colony gets large enough they'll seek independence, elites on earth are afraid of that becoming a possibility and a inter-planetary civil war happening

Not unless mars is terraformed first, people settle new lands for a better life not a shitty life in a pod that even the air you breath is owned by some billionaire or some corrupt self proclaimed pedo government and constantly worrying some over emotional low iq diversity placement chucks a chair through the window and gets everyone killed over some imagined slight.

The challenges are practically speaking unsurmountable. No magnetic field, super low atmospheric pressure (dust are all those storms can lift) sulfur in practically every gram of regolith (water turns acidic).

People would live like mole rats and need to return to Earth to have children. Hard radiation would make that a necessity. Nobody could live there full time without a massive amount of shielding.

Not really possible and even if it was it wouldn't be intelligent. The issue with mars is it's a little closer to the earth in terms of parameters but close doesn't count. If you don't get to earthlike parameters atmosphere only becomes a hindrance, will take much more energy to take off and land compared to the moon so exporting resources is much harder. Without export of resources colonization is just a prestige project that will get defunded the second the wind shifts.

The moon could be profitable because it has accumulated meteorites for billions of years like mars has, but is orders of magnitude closer. You can also mine it without worrying about the environment. Though I'm sure some environmentalist fags paid by polluting earth miners will scream about the rights of the moon goddess or something.

Mars is the illusion they dangle in your face. The real reason for spaceX is to stay in orbit long enough during the pole reversal. It's why they have to land vertical, clear paths to use as run ways will be cracked or covered.

mars is the ancient site of a destroyed civilization, the elites will never go or let anyone even set foot there, now imagine inhabiting it. we are supposed to become idiots who will never be free from their economic shackles, not to discover the truth about our past, and maybe future. alien disclosure and human ufos will become real before we settle mars, if we even get that far.

The only people who are really interested in doing it arent the best suited for it. White sci fi nerds will not bode well. North Koreans would make good ppl to send to a martian colony. They are mission focused team oriented and follow orders even if leads to their own demise. Also sub saharan Africans would be good due to genetic diversity. Could help alleviate some issues that could arise from starting a colony with smaller numbers. They will probably be assigned breeding partners at first.

Anonymous (ID: i6qEhF3x) United States No.518837119 >>518837681
>>518836876
But yes, I think its possible to get one started. We need at least 500-1000 for a starting civilization to avoid inbreeding early on. It will be funny when we have to address that the races are in fact different and pointing out which ones will be more suitable for which roles.
Anonymous (ID: IaWws/TT) Canada No.518837150

Maybe but it will be pretty much impractical. Nevermind the fact that literally everything would need to be transported there to build the facilities, everything would have to be completely self contained( Water and air generation) and survive long duration. Then there's the excessive UV levels.

Let's be honest, who is going to voluntarily go live in a frozen wasteland? Colonization isn't going to be possible in the near future simply because NO ONE is going to leave this beautiful planet to live the rest of their lives in a bleak, lifeless place where you have to be locked in an airtight capsule to avoid suffocating to death. For people to want to go live on Mars, we would first have to terraform it to make it a place where you can not only survive, but live. And with our current technology, even with "futuristic" technology, terraforming Mars could take decades to centuries.
