Germans literally said that the best tactic against Russian minefields was to drive around them bc on their maps they are these neat little squares. I wish I was kidding...

I have a friend on the SMO and he told me that the current thing they are doing on the most fortified portions of the front is just dropping leaft bombs around the Ukrainian trenches and then drop hundreds of FAB 500s on them. The Ukrainians can't leave because of the minefield and can't stay bc of the FABs so they surrender. Rinse and repeat.

Ukraine only controls one road leading in or out of Pokrovsk, but the Russians have FPV supremacy and instantly destroy any vehicle that happens to roll through. So effectively it is the same as if the city were completely encircled. Ukraine's one road gives a false impression that its not fully encircled, but in practice it is.

Nothing can get in or out. This means there is no resupply and no reinforcement. Whatever forces Ukraine has in that pocket, they can only scrape by with whatever they have until that runs out. At this point I think "2 more weeks" is unironically correct for once. Could be more or less, but either way this ends very soon.

Get ready for another false flag.

Another thing my friend told me is that being a drone operator today is about as deadly as being a stormtrooper as both sides despise them and they are hunted down. He distinctively told me that his unit fired an entire Grad salvo at a position drones were flying from, no questions asked, they hear drone they just turn the entire place into a parking lot and if any drone pilot is caught then he's uttely fucked. According to him, most valuable soldiers are mechanics or people who are otherwise good with their hands fixing anything from radios and smallarms to tanks.

The most effective soldiers are the most hated. Drones work and kill everyone. 70% of infantry casualties in this war are from drones only; completely supplanted artillery.

And the thing is, artillery isn't gone from this war. They are using artillery left and right, the drones are just that much deadlier.

Well what else is russia going to do? The SMO was supposed to end in a peace deal in april 2022, russia withdrew troops from kiev and northern ukraine in preparations for this deal, then boris johnson told zelensky to fight on, he listened like a good puppet does and russia's moved on to total war. See my previous post, russia is unlikely to fully encircle pokrovsk, since they can turn it into grinder where resources are wasted on a lost city.

It's important to remember that WW1 only lasted 4 years and 3 months. Avdiivka fell 1 year and 8 months ago. And if the current attacks fail to change things it's a safe bet the frontline will be mostly stable till March at the earliest.
Even if we are generous and start the date of the battle for Pokrovsk when Russia started encircling the city from the south that still means that the battle has been going for more than 10 months now.

Too bad Russia isn't the USSR, and they don't have the US and UK Lend Lease to give them food, money, raw materials, fuel, bullets, guns, tanks, trucks, planes, ships, engines, industrial know-how, training, intelligence, etc this time - which was literally the only reason the USSR was able to beat Germany during WWII. Nor do they have the Soviet satellite states to be cannon fodder for Moscow, or thier knowledge, expertise, and industrial might to build and design for Moscow. Russia is a shell of what it was during WWII for the reasons stated above.

It's literally the evolution of targeted artillery. Artillery has ALWAYS been the most devastating weapon of war. This hasn't changed one bit in over 800 years since cannons were invented, or trebuchets before them. Only the delivery methods change.

In the Dobropillya direction, and on the northeastern flank of Pokrovsk, Russian forces intensified their assault operations and have made major progress over the past 10 days.

In the northeast, at the beginning of October, Russian forces began a concerted effort to regain control over the tactical heights southeast of Volodymyrivka which Ukrainian forces recaptured last month. They began advancing northwest up a gulley and towards the southern bank of the Staryy Reservoir, capturing the treelines between them. These advances, alongside the clearing of the northern street of Novotoretske, forced the AFU to fully withdraw back into Volodymyrivka.

At the same time, Russian forces were able to push the Ukrainians back from their forward positions on the western approaches to Poltavka, clearing the northernmost chalk quarry and surrounding positions. They then began attacks through the treelines and forest plantations to the eastern bank of the Staryy Reservoir.

With these attacks now complete, under the cover of the fog and rain, two large Russian mechanised columns involving tanks and armoured personnel carriers advanced on Volodymyrivka. The first moved in from the south, advancing up the road and reaching the southern edge of the village. A portion of the vehicles were hit and disabled by Ukrainian FPV drones, however more than 50 Russian soldiers were able to dismount and scatter among the southern part of Volodymyrivka. With the remaining vehicles being able to retreat, these Russian soldiers began clearing the rest of the settlement and captured its central part. The rest of the village is now either in the grey zone, or under Russian control.

That might have been true when most killing was done up close with a sword, and even a man with nothing but a rock could kill a fully kitted out soldier if he was fighting like a crazed beast, it certainly isn't true in the modern era. There's a reason encirclement battles were by far the most decisive in World War 2. Modern formations are too large and consume too many resources, a fully encircled force can fight as desperately as it wants, it's still far less casualty intensive for the encircling force than this bizarre "bubbling cauldron" cope the Russians are limited to in this war.

Ukrainian-Russian war. Day 1326:
Situation on Pokrovsk & Mirnograd fronts: The situation around Novoekonomichne has been clarified: in the last two weeks, Russian army managed to secure the locality and surrounding areas, including most of Kapitalna Mine and the trench system further south to the Sinianske Reservoir. In addition, in the last few hours, assaults have begun on the localities of Balahan and Kozatske, just one kilometer from the houses of the town of Myrnohrad.
Moreover, in Pokrovsk city, Russian forces managed to expel Ukrainian army from the Durniak district and move the fighting to the industrial district, as well as secure new positions along the railway.

I never understood what NATO (The North Atlantic Treaty Organization) actually is or does.

According to Google:

It's a political and military alliance of 32 member countries from Europe and North America formed in 1949. Its primary purpose is to guarantee the freedom and security of its members through political and military cooperation.

Key functions and principles

Collective Defense:
An attack on one member is considered an attack on all, a provision invoked after the 9/11 attacks.

Political Cooperation:
Promotes democratic values and serves as a forum for members to discuss and cooperate on security matters, with decisions requiring unanimous agreement.

Military Capabilities:
Utilizes military forces contributed voluntarily by member countries for deterrence, defense, and crisis management, though it possesses few permanent forces.

Building Partnerships:
Collaborates with non-member nations and organizations on global security issues, aiming to enhance stability beyond its borders.

Open Door Policy:
European countries meeting treaty principles and contributing to Euro-Atlantic security can apply for membership, requiring unanimous consent from existing members. Finland and Sweden joined in 2023 and 2024, respectively.

I fucking hate this spineless EU position. Ukraine is a NATO partner, Europe's shield against Russia, future member state of the EU, using NATO systems, troops trained in NATO countries. When it is covenient Ukraine is "one of us", Zelenskyy jet sets from one country to another, picking up billions of dollars.

When Russia asks "hey, whatcha doin' NATO?" Suddenly the chorus comes back "what? Ukraine in NATO?! Ridiculous! They are fighting on their own! They're just plucky and ingenious!"

Then NATO countries plot how to steal Russian money from European banks and give it to Ukraine.

There was no peace treaty "Ready to sign" and Russia didn't pull out because of it, no matter how much you do this cope it's not true.

Russia left Kyiv because they no longer had a chance of taking Belarus couldn't support the type of logistics Russia needed to besiege the city and the Russian Airforce would have had to move through contested airspace to provide air support for continued operations.

They left northern Ukraine for strategic reasons, not for a nonexistent peace.

It's easy to chalk this up to le human waves tactic but historically open field warfare has always been rough and that's not even considering drones. That shit is a straight up nightmare.

Checked, I would agree if we were speaking only about open fields warfare but we have miserable examples like Krynky where men who in some cases had 3 weeks of training were sent month after month in to a battle where they clearly had every single imaginable disadvantage already, its gross, human lives completely wasted for zero discernable reason, the leaders responsible for that sort of thing should be executed or atleast replaced but nah, like you said the average grunts job is already nightmarish but they made it much much worse on many different occasions, its either gross incompetence or straight malice

That's why the Russian cauldrooning is so brutally effective. They leave a tiny 1% chance for survival, and instead of taking it, the Ukrainians force conscripts to try and reinforce the already cut off positions. NATO is a bureaucratic agency for coordinating America's vassals. They handle shit like figuring out what the equivalent rank for an obersturmgruppenflugzeugkammerdonaudampfschiffahrtsgesellschaft in Germany is in America, and making sure everyone uses crates that fit on each others forklifts. So when America decides to invade Iraq they don't need to delay the invasion for half a decade while the Brits and the Poles decide who gets to give Bush a rimjob, they've already worked all that out.

Without lend lease, the western allies bombing Germany, and the N.A then Italian front, the USSR would have obviously lost. They almost lost with all those things.

The absolute devastation wreaked on Soviet armies was on the grandest scale in history.

As for the current war, it's been a disaster for both sides. In no way is either Russia or Ukraine winning. It's either mindless slaughter for nothing or coordinated kabuki theatre to keep the world in a constant state of emergency post covid.

Except that's not even a good analogy, since Iraq is on the other side of the planet from the US. It would be like if 3.5 years into a war with Mexico, the US had lost 2 million men and only captured the baja peninsula and parts of sonora and chihuahua. At that point it wouldn't matter if America turned it around and blitzed the rest of the country, the humiliation to America's military would already be done. And that's what's happened to Russia. They can't even win an invasion of a neighboring country that they envelop on 3 sides.
