This. The war in Gaza has been so normalized that no one really even remembered that the hostages are why the conflict "started" in the first place.
They needed the hostages to be a thing early on to justify the war. Now they can afford to get the hostages back and continue the war anyway, and no one would expect otherwise. They get to have the good PR of bringing the hostages home but also continue the genocide anyway.
