>Chinese containership Istanbul Bridge is scheduled to arrive at the UK’s largest terminal Felixstowe during the afternoon of October 13. The Panamax vessel completed the 7,500 nautical mile voyage from China via the Arctic Northern Sea Route in just 20 days. A comparable voyage through the Suez Canal measures 11,000 nautical miles and routinely takes between 40-50 days.

The US would need a lot more nuclear Ice Breakers in order to open a way for the ships which the US doesn't have that many compared with Russia. Currently only Russia has enough of them to keep the passage way open since they have lots of icebreakers that can take turns

>>518872180
Icebreakers can't keep the route open in winter, either. Navigating arctic waters as a one-off in the warm months is a complete nothing burger. The reason that these routes aren't used more heavily is that they're seasonal and depend heavily on unpredictable weather factors. It's easier to just pay the Suez toll and transit through warm waters.

These routes may become more viable in the future as the climate shifts but they are not there yet. China's just trying to flex their alliance with Russia as US trade talks stall. They're obsessed over trying to produce a Sputnik moment

If you want to believe their propaganda, go ahead.
I'm aware they throw thousands of solar panels on a mountainside for photoshoots, but they aren't hooked up to anything and get left to rot. Wind is also a joke. I'll be honest though, I don't know anything about their hydroelectric, other than they don't give a fuck how it impacts the environment or people when they build dams.
And I know they build more coal plants per year than anywhere else while telling the world they have a "plan" to go green.
