this explanation is overcomplicated to the layman. just think of it like this: there are a shit ton of fees the broker collects for opening a future/perpetual position and fees every so many minutes/hours to keep it open that get taken perpetually, the broker will always make money from you off those even if your short prints money. also there are just as many people "longing" at the same time who are getting rek'd who will either close in the red and still pay fees or get liquidated. so the broker really isn't losing or making money, but in a big liquidation event like a few days ago, sure they make a lot of money. but then most people will long immediately after and they will pay it back.

in the long run the broker is making money off liquidations though, long or short so this is how they can pay out a successful trade in one direction. this is at least how i understand how they can fund successful trades
