Had a chuckle but handling of audio in Linux is leagues above Windows, you can pull off some dark magic shit when you need to with either pulse audio or pipewire. I have had small issues but they are never as obscure to figure out as they are in Windows assuming you have equal familiarity with both systems. I can debug and fix audio problems almost instantly on Linux with my rather complex setup involving combined audio sinks.

>windows for actual work
LMAO no, unless you do some paper pusher shit with Office suite that does not require any deeply technical things. Otherwise it's Unix or nothing because any use of CLI is vastly superior, meaning Mac is fine too to a degree besides lacking optionality in many areas. Windows has obstacles in it where there should be none.

you can also kill or kill almost all telemetry on it.

Literally the only reason I stopped using Linux was because university (and later work) had people using shit like excel or docx files, and I didn't think their windows machines would handle any of the libre office formats. At this point I would jsut compromise and say we all use google sheets instead as a brownserless alternative. MS only has office, nothing else. My linux distro was ubuntu and it ran just fine. It's literally the popularity of windows that makes changing from windows a difficult thing to do.

Right. But then you need to send something back to someone who uses windows to assess it, and that effects either your grade or your job. It's just easier to stick with what the boomer knows and uses, since they unironucally matter more as they control your job/grade.

Now that you worded it like this, yes I do, thank you. Well then it sucks if even something like AutoCAD doesn't cut it, remember touching it years ago and it felt alright. sounds very odd to have only one piece of software good enough for the whole big realm. With that being said, if I was locked to a particular proprietary toolset I would still pick Mac over Windows, especially for things like graphical design, audio work or video editing.

Not to imply CAD specifically, but when you have a piece of software that has too many responsibilities, getting one broken feature can mean downtime in many areas instead of one. Plus if you let someone have means to grab you by the balls via excessive centralization, they absolutely will do it- again have Adobe as an example. At least smaller companies learn the hard way once they start bleeding money for bullshit extra expenses.

That can be a very expensive mistake, but I can accept that your country might still count as the wild west in this regard.

And anyway, I'm not talking about stability of OS around the tool when responding to you, but tools themselves specifically. But have at it, what you say makes no sense when people get buttraped with Windows updates regularly or MS accounts brick things while Linux distro close to desktop specifications is fit for server environments and can have years of uptime until a security patch requires a reboot. Not even a remotely close comparison in terms of reliability until you introduce the bleeding edge approach.

You still can't even properly install most distros on a lot of laptops without being hardwired in - due to the distros never shipping with wifi drivers pre installed for some god-forsaken reason. Way too many mandatory drivers still need to be installed manually.

Linux has gotten better, but distribution managers are still way too autistic to make it "simply usable".

Large sprawling programs in general do have lots of connectivity and interlinked dependencies involved, that was my point. And speaking of Solidworks, I wouldn't count on it staying the same if there is monopoly at play.

>installed software will work the same way each time
Just wanted to say Windows is really worse at this than Mac or Linux due to the way it optimizes for performance, it just doesn't like dealing with heavy programs. And then throw .NET menace and registry fuckery on top of it.

Linux can be difficult when you have to do certain things on it though. Sometimes it will cost you hours of your time.
