Attacking fortified positions without overwhelming troop advantage will result in high casualties. 1.4:1 is actually performing pretty well for Russia considering what they're doing. NATO doctrine wouldn't attack these positions without a 3:1 advantage + overwhelming air power.

Russia has about 24 months, 2 years, before they will experience a complete collapse like 1991. I say this as someone who had many doubts about Ukrainian victory along the way, but I feel confident that Ukraine will win at this point.
The collapse of Russia can´t even be stopped. It´s like a boulder, that has already been pushed down the mountain. Even if we froze the frontline right now, it would not stop the collapse. Russia wouldn´t be able to pay their frontline soldiers to stay at the front, so they would have to go back home and then the 500.000 savages would tear Russia apart.
Both this administration and the former administration fears will come true, that they have to handle and make sure that Russia´s nukes doesn´t get sold of by some Russian general who hasn´t gotten a paycheck in 4 months or that a Chechen warlord doesn´t siege a bunker filled with 50 tactical nukes as riots are taking place in Moscow. I think it will be fine, it will be easer than it was in 1991.
