Dealership employees definitely do. That's after they've had 3 or 4 cars that they financed, traded in after a year and then upgraded to an even bigger car.

I guess it's a professional hazard, they just spend all day listening to the sales spiel.

The myth of disposable income:
The Setup: The Frugal Champion

>Annual Salary: $40,000
>Monthly Gross Pay: $3,333
>Monthly Net Pay (Est.): ~$2,650 (After approx. 20% for taxes, Social Security, etc. This is optimistic in many states.)
>Fixed Expenses (Your List):
>Car Insurance: $150
>Food (At home only): $300
>Remaining for Rent/Utilities/Everything Else: $2,650 - $150 - $300 = $2,200

Now, let's plug in the real-world costs.

Housing & Utilities

>Rent (National Average 1-bed apartment): ~$1,500/month (And that's often for a place you don't want to live in).
>Utilities Bundle (Electric, Water, Gas, Garbage): ~$250/month (This can be much higher with AC/Heat).
>Internet & Bottom-Tier Cell Phone: ~$100/month (Non-negotiable for modern life and work).

Let's subtract these from our remaining $2,200:
$2,200 - $1,500 - $250 - $100 = $350

The "Other" Non-Negotiable Expenses

You have a paid-off car. Great. But it's not free.
>Car Maintenance/Registration/Repairs (Averaged monthly): $100 (This is a lowball estimate. One brake job blows this for months).
>Health Insurance (if not fully covered by employer): $150/month (This is a very low estimate for a decent plan).
>Gasoline (Commuting to that $40k job): $150/month (A modest commute).

Let's subtract these:
$350 - $100 - $150 - $150 = -$50

You are now fifty dollars in the hole every month, before anything else happens.

I drive a 98 Jeep Cherokee I bought for $1800 5 years ago. I’ve replaced the alternator and power steering pump. Both required popping the hood and reaching in to unscrew 3 bolts. Cars cost like $50k new, I'm not surprised. I literally could not fathom paying more than $10k-$15k but then again I don't tow or off road or race. Would I love to have a big fucking jeep? Yeah, but I literally can't see myself spending that much unless I'm sitting on cash, and even then, I'd rather out it n my kids 529 or my 401k or go on a vacation.
My buddy is a loan officer at a bank and says people who drive pic related are usually worth close to, or over, 7 figs. Nice middle aged guy comes in to do banking with them, deposit cash, etc. drives a fucking 20 year old mercury. Has like $4m in assets with their bank.

It'd have to be a whole bunch of shit, maybe outright proven fraud. Even having a repo or two on your report will only get you down to the high 400s, so getting to 325 (only 25 points above the lowest possible score) would take some real work. Same here, and this sucks for anyone who needs to do work with their vehicle, for example towing. Even 4x4s now come with tiny 1.2, 1.4l engines you have to rev the bollocks off. Useless for towing. The options now are either buy an 80k € vehicle new or buy a 20 year old vehicle.

>paying taxes
Cringe slave
>10 dollars a day to feed yourself at home
You can eat out for cheaper
>150 insurance
I have full coverage on a 22 for less than that. Liability on a shitbox would be less.
>using average rent
They can get a below average apartment
>utilities
Significantly higher than what I pay in the sweltering heat of summer
>internet AND bottom tier cellphone
This is also too high for both, and you don’t need both if you are unable to save
>health insurance
Try 0$. Thanks, Obama; I have better insurance than people who get it from work.
>gasoline
I spend less than 40 a month. This number could be anything from 20-500+ depending on your vehicle and commute. Sell your truck and buy an economy vehicle, then move to a cheaper apartment near your work

Basically you are fucking retarded and never lived on your own. Speaking of living on your own, roommates will further slash your rent payments.

Some quick math is showing me that 1500$ a month is 36% of the income of a person that earns 50k dollars annualy. LIKE HOW FUCKING RETARDED CAN YOU BE.

Here is a car that would cost you 108$ a month on a 4 year lease, assuming you don't just buy it for 5000$. Thats what a poor person should actually be paying for. Its not a nice car, but I would rather have that and not be in crippling debt, than have a nice car and be in crippling debt. 1386 + 1516 is about what I paid 6 years ago for a car I am still driving today. Put a couple thousand into it to redo the front end (hired a mechanic to do it, bought the complete parts kit from Amazon for $300), nothing else of note besides tires, batteries, oil etc.
But it requires some understanding of how cars work to do that in other words it's not available to a dumbass.

If I could do it again I'd get a cheaper car, but I got a 2024 Subaru Legacy w Limited trim, about 8,000 miles on it, for $26.5k.
It was my first car purchase and I sought my dad for advice, and I think he ended up kind of living vicariously through me and encouraged me to get something more on the expensive side. And he was obsessed with all wheel drive.
I put down maybe $8k and felt buyers remorse relatively quickly, it's a $425 monthly payment for 5 years. The interest was pissing me off (my rate is around 6.7%) so I began aggressively paying it down. It's around 7 months since buying it at this point and I have the remaining principal down to 12.5k.
The silver lining is the experience got to me to look at my budgeting and start optimizing and saving better. I know where all my cash flow comes from and goes now.
The car is really comfortable to drive, fast acceleration from the perspective of a non-enthusiast, great shocks and quiet interior. I can start it remotely with the AC or heat blasting, which is kind of awesome in the Midwest. My biggest frustration with it besides the big screen dashboard is the speakers. It has the upgraded sound system but I'm just not a fan for some of the music I listen to. It's very easy for vocals to get muddy or even unintelligible, and it doesn't have good sound stage despite being a 12 speaker array. Stuff like bass-y jazz and pop sounds fine, it's definitely tuned for normies.

I just recently stopped using filet mignon whenever i eat whole, non ground beef, because the tenderloins were getting too damn expesnive... Over $100 canadian for 1 kilo.

I know that sounds really pretentious "i had to start eating the second best cut of beef instead of the best"

But it used to be affordable. 10 years ago i had no problem making stir fry or teriyaki with a filet. Not anymore.... Atleast the hotdog is still the same price.

no, but of course when you interview obvious salesfags, of course you're going to get people who spend too much on having very little. those are all bimmer and merc loan numbers, high end 3 & 5 series, probably M3s or M5s, or upper E & S classes.

lmao, where are you living that you're paying that much for your utilities outside of summer in the deep south? Also, who the fuck pays for garbage? That shit would get included in the rent price schema, you idiot. Way to out that you've only lived in private, gated communities your entire life.

$150/month in any small or mid-sized sedan is hilariously high. $100 monthly car maintenance is ridiculous; what the fuck are you doing, throwing rocks into the engine bay? If you can't get health insurance through work, you simply don't get any and cut down on goyslop. $300 a month for your food budget is high as well, as is your car insurance rate; it's only that high if you are a shitty driver or you have a car that costs a ton.

Your even plugged your shit into an AI and your calculations still suck. You didn't even use the national average wage in the US, you just picked whichever was the first amount to make your bullshit nonsense work. The national average salary in the US currently is mid-60,000 range. Sure is a lot easier to make it work when you've got an extra 10K-15K in the bank to work with, huh? Go be a fucking faggot elsewhere; reddit is a good place because they won't call you out.
