>inflation
>dollar value goes down

Shouldn't inflation and deflation be flipped in terminology? The jews love using the term too much to make it sound better that things go up.

Inflation is called that because the money supply is inflated/increased, lowering the value of each dollar.
I think it's actually good that it's called that because politicians and those they confuse love to claim that inflation has nothing to do with the money supply, it's the fault of corporations or consumers or something else, just don't blame the money printer.
The terminology is a small hedge against these lies.

You underestimate the stupidity of the common folk. Reminder, most people don't know a thing about money.

Yeah that's why the lies I mentioned are effective, but despite that everyone knows inflation is bad, or at least they know that really high inflation is bad. If they could be fooled into believing it was good then politicians would say that, but people aren't that dumb, even if they have no knowledge of economics.

Its moreso that the populance isn't taking the word inflation seriously. They know the word but none of them actually know exactly how bad it is. To them, it just means "oh well, money doesnt go as far, I'll keep living my miserable life."

Stop listening to Elon Musk. He's part of the club. He's not like you or me.

It would be nice if everyone was educated on economics, but not everyone has the time/interest/intellect/etc. and that's not necessarily their fault, though the lies they're told are probably harmful.

He is right about that, though, and he's not the first person to say it.
Inflation is a tax in that it transfers money from you to your government, and it's regressive in that the poorer you are the worse it is for you.

Inflation is literally rising prices. Your dollar is worth less because you can’t buy as much with it, not because there are more dollars now than there were before. What matters most for general price levels (other than energy/supply shocks) is the amount of transactions taking place, not the amount of money in existence. Money sitting on a bank ledger not moving around doesn’t do anything to affect prices.

>Your dollar is worth less because you can’t buy as much with it
That's not an effect and a cause, that's just defining what being worth less means.
WHY can't you buy as much with it? Because there are more dollars in circulation without an equivalent rise in productivity, and thus more are required to for each transaction.

>WHY can't you buy as much with it?
BECAUSE THE THING YOU WANT TO BUY COSTS MORE.
Inflation happens when it gets more expensive to produce and sell things. Prices are set by the companies that produce and sell things.
That stupid fucking formula you learned in high school is wrong, the quantitative theory of money hasn’t held up for half a century.

Here’s a big hint:
What happened when the Federal Reserve injected trillions in reserves during the GFC when interest rates were 0-2%? We got a decade of 0-2% inflation.
What happened when the Federal Reserve injected trillions in reserves during the COVID shutdown when interest rates were 5-10%? We got half a decade (so far) of 5-10% inflation.

>BECAUSE THE THING YOU WANT TO BUY COSTS MORE.
Again that's just rewording the problem. That's not the cause.
WHY does the thing you want to buy cost more?
From what you've said I guess you think it stops with whoever set the price. That's the blame the corporations lie that I mentioned earlier ITT.
