Russia Proposes Local Ceasefire for Repairs at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant

Russia's envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Wednesday that a local ceasefire is needed to repair power lines crucial for the safe operation of the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) in Ukraine.
The plant, Europe's largest, has been running on emergency diesel generators for three weeks since its last main power line was cut on Sept. 23. This marks the tenth and longest complete disconnection from the grid since the facility was captured by Russian forces in 2022.
"For this to become a reality, it is necessary to agree on a local ceasefire in the areas where repair work will be carried out," Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia's representative in Vienna, told Russian media. He stated that repair work on the main "Dniprovska" and backup "Ferosplavna-1" lines could begin by the end of the week.
