Croatia: Indian chef on the island of Krk arrested on suspicion of raping assistant cook
As the head chef at a hotel on the island of Krk, he raped a girl, an assistant cook who worked at the same hotel. These are the suspicions under which Indian citizen Akshay Madhusudan Sawant (32), originally from Mumbai (Bombay), was arrested. On Wednesday afternoon, the police brought him to the Rijeka County Court for a hearing to decide whether to order him to be remanded in custody. The Rijeka County State Attorney's Office proposed to the investigating judge that the Indian be remanded in custody due to the risk that, if released, he could escape and influence witnesses (the victim).
In addition to raping the girl, the Indian is also suspected of the criminal offense of lewd acts and intrusive behavior. The cook is suspected of committing a serious sexual offense on June 27 this year, in the evening, in an apartment in Baška on the island of Krk. He started kissing his colleague, and then performed a sexual act, even though she told him not to do it, to stop because she didn't want it. After that, she asked him to drive her home, which he refused, prevented her from leaving and asked her to stay so they could talk about everything. An argument ensued between the two, after which she left the apartment.
Sawant is also charged with committing a sexual offense at the end of August last year in a room at a hotel in Baška where they both worked, and which was used by an assistant cook. He started kissing the girl, and then touched her private parts of her body, even though she objected and told him to stop.
