The professional military has always largely been manned by misfits. It's not a good or bad thing. Getting martial training is probably a good idea in general, it's possible to do so outside of the Army. The Ancient Greeks would have local militias where everyone would come together periodically and train to fight as a phalanx. That is probably the Western ideal.

Not everyone can be a mighty man of valor. I am content with being weak. Some people are smart too and the army relies on them. There are strong and smart people. But if you are just smart that is also a blessing. That is how I see it. Where would the army be without its egg heads? They would just just another African country's army or a Latin American or Middle Eastern army. Sub-par. If army men want their military fighting force to be truly elite, they will see value in people who may not be that strong but who are at least smart and educated. Anyway. I hate JOG's army and police. But any proper army has all kinds of people in it(not talking about race.) I am not strong, but I could definitely work intelligence because of my wisdom.
