Evidence for a "big bang" consists of like 100 years of observing the universe expand away from us. Sorry but that isn't enough for me. There's no way we can take that small amount of evidence and apply it to events that happened 27 billion years ago.
Anyone who seriously contends that the "big bang" is a reasonable theory for the begining of the Universe is delusional and lost in the sauce.

Ultimately it doesn't matter how the universe started, because knowing that answer can't change the fact that we are here. It would be neat to know, and we might learn something useful about physics in the pursuit of the question, but the answer itself isn't actually worth much.

The big bang theory is probably wrong, at least in part. But it is, so far, right *enough* to explain most of what we are seeing and we don't have a better idea to explain it all yet. The big bang is less a theory of how the universe was created and more a guess as to what happened after

I recently listened to a history of the telescope. Hubble published the findings that objects in the universe were all moving away from eachother on 1929.
I'm still not convinced on the reasoning behind it. the big bang theory would answer a lot of questions, but there are still way to many questions it creates.
The way our understanding of physics and the universe has progressed in just 100 years is pretty crazy.
I find it so interesting to think of things outside our solar system, but i honestly don't really think it matters at all when i want more practical things like fusion power and better energy storage.
