We Need More Megaprojects
megaprojects should be a top priority for our politicians. for example if we made a river going through australia the outback would become fertile for growing crops

But wouldn't it be salt water? They should build nuclear powered desalination plants on the coasts then pipelines to the interior but they are too cucked.

I mean sure, but isn't that just a normal open cycle nuclear power plant.
>pressurised water or sodium or whatever cycles through reactor to keep it from melting
>gets hot and travels through heat exchanger
>turn salt water into steam to drive turbine, then discharge condensed steam into channel
>???
Just gotta make sure your heat exchanger isn't clogged with salt, which shouldn't be too hard. Maybe you can sell the salt too.

Nta but north to south alone is 2000+ miles, as opposed to the distance of the Suez (120 miles). Here's a topographical map of Australia. Quite mountainous and rocky in the west (much like America). Maybe the guy's placement of a proposed canal would work where he drew it though, as the salinity of ocean water would destroy their fresh water source and potentially destroy their arable land.

Filling the Simpson depression would make millions of acres livable in interior Australia but also not needed Australia still has enormous millions of unused or underused arable land

Literally non need to make more right now

Just the area around Perth and the entire east coast + southeast could easily fit hundreds of millions of people

Not saying it should, but it could

And that’s before you even deal with less desirable land on the northern coast and further inland

These areas aren’t unviable they just aren’t ideal

The very center is obviously desert and this mega project could fix that but why? Australia needs like 300 million more people first

Cutting a canal into Australia would absolutely do nothing. The problem is that the arid land has no viable soil for crops and there is no rain water to naturally fill a river due to the coastal mountains in the East blocking cloud formations and the peculiar position of Australia. The reason why major rivers in deserts like the Nile River or Tigris/Euphrates rivers are plentiful of fresh water is because they descend from mountain regions from their sources.

yeah we get it. you don't like cities. every building should be dismantled and we should live like the native americans right? yeah doesn't work, the one civilization that didn't have delusions of living with the animals would build cities, have an industrial revolution, and dominate everyone else and force them out of savagery, its happened before. cities are inevitable but they don't have to be ugly. nature is beautiful but man made beauty is also possible and to celebrate it is to celebrate man as something dignified and glorious made in the image of our creator. one day our most majestic constructions will be buried entirely under soulless glass rectangles and it will be an immense dehumanizing blow to the collective psyche.

it already is, partially. it's not that the moon goes around earth. the moon goes around earth while earth goes around moon, that's why the moon's daily travel across the sky changes from so low it's below southern trees to starting in the northeast and ending in southwest, going across half the sky.
if it was stuck to earth as the simplistic model says, the moon would always follow the same path as the sun, not changing wildly within a month, every month.
the moon is a micro-planet, like pluto in a dual planetary system.

Hate might be a strong word. I dont think much if humanity though to be fair. I do hate cities though.

My view is that this division of urboids and rural people has been the chiefest division in mankind since the dawn of civilization. It is the cleanest proxy for all major divisions and disagreements. Most critical-mass build ups of social disease, literal disease, political disease and filth occur due to cities imho. I honestly have nothing good to say about them. I don't even like small ones. It's just sort of a low brow intuitive thing for me. No amount of philosophizing is going to make me stop feeling this way there's too much water under the bridge by now.

Reddit spacing never meant no line breaks. It meant over the top use if line breaks. However alot of midwit newcomers interpreted it to mean ANY use of line breaks. In fact the misuse of this term is a good profiling tool for newfags.

For example if I typed a post this way with inordinate paragraph breaks.

It would be much closer to what the term "reddit spacing" was meant to describe.

For some reason the people on that godforsaken place like this way of posting.

However there has never been any convention here that no line breaks should be used ever. When they are used sensibly they have always been acceptable.

Why change the desert when you could just change how you live in it?
>>518978443
>My view is that this division of urboids and rural people has been the chiefest division in mankind since the dawn of civilization.
This is ludicrous, especially from an American. All the westward expansion we did here was on the back of supply lines from the urbanized east coast. A frontierman only lives where he gets resupply from the interior. You started the Oregon trail by buying things from eastern cities at the end of rails that go back to those cities.

Cities and farmers are friends, when both are working to their best capacity. The city produces the technological advances necessary to make rural life more reliable and safe, while the rural areas have always been the traditional suppliers of materials, crops, animals, and population growth (since cities traditionally have bad birth rates). This "division" is like the roots of a tree claiming that they're completely different from the leaves and have always been opposed to them. The leaves and the roots fighting destroys the tree, ruining both.

just how it turned central africa into a desert? desertification happens along the tropical lines, not the equator.
>tropical lines
>mexico, sahara, saudis, iran, china
>south of south america, south africa, australia
>all desertified
>equator
>northern south africa, central africa, south east asia
>tropical jungles

sounds like we need to bring back slavery. but not with niggers, they're worthless. fuck, not with humans in general, humans are shit at the whole slavery thing. robots would make perfect slaves. they don't strike, they don't want rights or good living conditions, they don't need entertainment or companionship or freedom, they just need electricity, maintenance and cooling to work tirelessly.

That canal route already exists

Shipping by water is much cheaper than truck but it’s also slower

These water routes are still the primary way bulk cargo is moved until it’s within the last 100-200 miles then it’s put on a truck

Look development for the sake of development is not something that appeals to me. Some level of people aggregating up on themselves may be a necessary evil unfortunately but that does not mean they should be unrestrained, catered to, and allowed to use their governments, media, and banks to drag around decent people while ALSO being entitled to being liked by them kek. The expectation of a good relationship at this juncture is basically insane tbqh.

Half of that would be Canadian shield and would not only be insanely expensive but also very time consuming. Not to mention that from Montreal to Iceland you'd probably encounter more bears than people.

Going the other way through Siberia would be logistically much more feasible but geopolitically even more questionable.

The salt drops off as it comes through, that's why other rivers aren't salty. The Nile doesn't come from mountain snow melt, many others don't. The issue is it can't be a typical man made river with concrete floor or the salt will just stay in.
