When my daughter (inb4 Merry) was born, I got to cut the umbilical cord. They handed me the scissors and told me to cut it basically immediately, as it still looked like the photo on the left. I waited a while, remembering this image, until it had significantly drained and blanched, the whole time the nurses are saying "go on, cut it now" while I'm saying "wait, it's not ready yet." I remember other newborns in the maternity ward being shrivelled gangly pathetic excuses for what a healthy new life should be. Meanwhile, my child was healthy and full of life. The healthcare industry is run by fucking demons.
