It always amazes me to see irish leftists pretend that the very foundings of Irish Republicanism was not Nationalism. For what do you want your own state for? To fill it with foreigners? For economic reasons?

Irish Republicanism is rooted in Nationalism. Nationalism was always the primary. We wanted our own state for a nationalist cause, and we were socialist for a nationalist cause, because we did not own our own lands and we were mistreated by foreign rule and we wanted our country back. James Connelly was socialist because he was a nationalist and seen it as a tool for the nationalist cause. Patrick Pearse and Michael Collins saw Irish freedom as inseparable from Gaelic identity, language, culture, and ancestry. It is the modern Sinn Féiner, who are really just Communists using republicanism as a vehicle who have co-opted republicanism, not Nationalists, or as they like to call them "fascists". These lefty retards have no concept of what a nation is and they conflate nation with state. They are only republican because they some how think that makes it easier to have their socialist utopia. If Connelly seen these people today who are more invested in Palestine than their own people, he'd be disgusted
And i'm not even saying supporting Palestine is a bad thing, but when you can see Plaestinians as their own people but you can't even define what your own is, that speaks volumes. These leftists are not ones to be making theories about foreign influence. That is very rich coming from them

Yes, there is an aspect of that, there are some people who are like that. But historically, for the actual Republican/Nationalist movement in Ireland this is not so. Irish Republicanism was about nationalism. It was about reclaiming what was lost and nurturing our own culture and sense of self and nationhood. And the hatred for Britain was warranted considering the history, it didn't come out of no where
