I can explain that, but bare with me:
The history of human migration put forth by our institutions is wildly incorrect. Over the past 20 years, discoveries have been made in archeology, genomics, and ocean currents that have poked so many holes in the Bering Land Bridge model that it no longer holds water.
Essentially, there have been multiple waves of migration to the Americas from all continents dating back upwards of 60,000 years
Why do the natives of central and south America look so different from the NA natives?
NA natives have blood relations to ancient E Asians mixed with genes exclusive to ancient European and mid-east cultures. Think about what happens if a Mongolian mates with a Finn. Now extrapolate that out using more Mongolian features and you have NA natives.
To the south.... well... they got fucked in the looks department because although there are traces of "mongoloid" (E. Asian) genes, the greatest traces these natives have are to the south pacific tribes (abos and Maori) and (yes, really) Africans. So you end up with broad-nosed hybrids. Think about what you'd get if you mated an abo or Hawaiian with an African.
How did those genes end up there? The south pacific, as it turns out, has current flows that could float a craft from, say, Australia, to the shores of Mexico, Peru, or Chile. The Atlantic has an even easier and shorter route from southern and western Africa.
As for their crafts, these were enormous floating platforms that resemble those floating villages you see in SE Asia. Huge, tethered-together platforms with livestock corrals, huts, familial dwellings, etc. Think of the game Raft. These rafts were well-crafted and very durable, carrying hundreds of people on a self-sustaining man made island just drifting about until it hit ground. That's how the Hawaiian islands were found.
Of course, over several hundred generations, the terrain itself will form unique characteristics, but the underlying blueprints are there.
