Liberalism as in laissez faire capitalist individualism free market etc. etc., people who ultimately don't really give a shit about anything but themselves and money (this is both mainstream Democrats and Republicans). Leftists are socialist / communist, redistributionist, class conflict focused, and so on. The former support Israel because they ultimately have no real beliefs besides what benefits them personally and the opposing the Jews is more trouble than its worth, whereas the latter view the Israelis as evil imperialists oppressing a colonized people
