So essentially it started off with him friending "Friend A", which turned out to be a stolen identity of a woman who died in a different nearby city in 2002. Unique name so they were easy to find (why they would use unique names I don't know, they're just that fucking stupid)

He doesn't know anything about scams basically. He thought paying them was the end of it. It never is. He can't even place Nigeria roughly on a map and never heard of the country Benin before. But the scammers are almost as inept as he is. I just can't believe they kept opening the one link on so many computers, including home computers with domains registered to their name and address

I tried for years to get CEOs of major corporations to stop paying ransomware gangs. They just wouldn't listen, they didn't understand that there would be further ransom demands. There always are.
The government had to make it illegal to force CEOs to stop paying criminal ransoms.
