India’s best hope at the Olympics (women’s power lifting) has died
>Bikaner, India: 17-year-old Yashtika Acharya, a Junior National Games gold medallist in powerlifting, died during training on Friday, October 18, 2025, after a 270 kg barbell fell on her neck at a local gym.
>According to Naya Shahar SHO Vikram Tiwari, Acharya’s neck broke on impact, and despite immediate medical attention, she was declared dead at the hospital. Her trainer also sustained minor injuries.
>Her family has not filed a complaint, and after a post-mortem examination, her body will be handed over to them on Wednesday.
