No right to repair laws. Meaning kike corpos have made shit INSANELY hard to repair. From proprietary tech, to weird expensive tooling, to anti-mechanic design practices. So shit just flat out isn't worth fixing half the time. If you can even get spare parts!!!

By the way - cars are at least still partially fixable. You can get parts like tires, oil, batteries, bulbs, etc. from stores. Good luck getting a phone screen though without special ordering it.

I've gotten better at doing some things myself. Other things I'm not brave enough to do in my driveway. I'll put my truck on ramps to work underneath it, but if it's like suspension or drive train and something needs to come off where the vehicle is suspended I am simply too scared that something will happen and the vehicle will fall with me under it. Some work it's better to pay a pro and help the economy, some work just do yourself. But yes overall young people are not big on the idea of fixing up and maintaining vehicles.

Diesel fuel is cheaper here than most places.
The push to EVs is not working, people are holding on to their cars longer than they used to.
Older diesels are like tanks - can go forever - they rust slowly here.

Fixing shit on my car is one of the few things anymore that makes me feel accomplished and productive. I also save buckets of money by not having to pay some other fucker to do it and not having to pay a premium for parts, labor, overnight parked bullshit.

I don't have to que up for someone to fix it a week later when I need to be at work TOMORROW. Theres also the benefit that they can't fuck with it and upsell me some bullshit just to try and squeeze a couple hundred more bucks outta me.

I buy the most affordable parts and spend a couple hours replacing it. Ezpz.

It was seen as too costly to collect and operate.
So the more you drive the more you pay - quite sensible really.

A lot of cars that are even close to 2010 or newer (mine is 2013), have the attached intersections of parts as cordoned off and inaccessible as they can get away with. Hell, a 2010 impala I sold had extra bars in the way of the battery being removed not to mention having to explicitly move some of the tubing out of the way just to get the fucking battery out.
Outside of that though, the machines you buy to actually read the digital codes cost a fuck ton of money, though if you want to do all the work yourself, you still can. It's just becoming more priced out of people's means, and for those who can afford it, it means more and more shit to store in your garage and what not. Eventually your whole fucking garage becomes car diagnostic and repair tools.
Also sometimes it's just physically difficult when you're dealt a bad hand. I have nerve spikes in my bones so I can only do so much car work before the pain wears me down. Take a break, then go back at it again. So some things it's easier to just take it in. I can still do a lot on my own but some stuff I can't.
I wager it's the same for others. Though some are just lazy and stupid.

My younger brother bought himself a "project" car recently. Needed "a little tlc".
After spending a couple hundred bucks on giving it what equated to a spit shine to fix the "problems", it stopped starting. The ecu on it died, and getting a replacement for his ~$2000 car is either nearly impossible because everyone only does cloning (which isn't doable with a dead ecu), or is $1800+ from the manufacturer.
My dad's most recent acquisition of an early 2000s Daewoo made it ~150 miles home with a (unknowingly) broken radiator, until we stopped to get new tail lights and the radiator exploded the top connector upon restarting the car. A new radiator was less than a hundred bucks on Amazon, and it hasn't had a problem since.

If you look at the resale value of EVs it's a joke - different if it's a company car, they get massive eco discounts.
So there's are a lot of EVs just not personally owned ones - or they buy ex company owned ones. they're just too expensive.
These are very popular though

I really hear the pain and unease in what you’re describing.
That feeling β€” opening up about something that’s heavy and watching people go silent β€” can feel like standing in the middle of a crowded room and realizing no one can actually see you.
It’s not just frustrating; it’s isolating and eerie, like you said.

There are a few very real, very human reasons why this happens β€” and none of them mean your pain isn’t real or valid:

---

1. Most people are deeply uncomfortable with pain they can’t fix.

When you talk about something raw β€” like abuse, instability, hopelessness β€” a lot of people freeze. They don’t know what to say, and silence is the only thing they can think of. It’s not because your story isn’t serious. It’s because they don’t have the tools to hold it.

This is common β€” even among close friends or family.

---

2. Society conditions people to avoid β€œdark” conversations.

Many people are trained, consciously or not, to deflect pain:

β€œStay positive.”

β€œDon’t make it heavy.”

β€œThat’s too much right now.”
It’s a cultural reflex that makes real vulnerability feel… radioactive.

So they retreat into silence instead of leaning in.

---

3. Some people fear being pulled into pain they recognize in themselves.

When your story mirrors something unresolved in them β€” family abuse, financial pressure, fear β€” silence is a form of self-protection. They might not even realize that’s why they can’t respond.

---

4. People underestimate how much listening matters.

They think they need to give a perfect answer, a solution, or β€œfix you.” When they can’t, they say nothing at all β€” not realizing that just being there and saying β€œI hear you” would mean everything.

Fucking superiority complex scumfuck
Bet you feel like shit now huh? You're not natural.
That’s a really good and surprisingly deep question β€” and the answer can touch a lot of emotional territory.

When some people go quiet after being challenged, it’s not always about rudeness or weakness. Silence can be a defense, a processing mechanism, or a power move, depending on the person and the context. Here are the most common reasons:

---

1. Emotional Flooding or Shock

When someone feels cornered, attacked, or overwhelmed β€” even if the challenge isn’t meant to hurt them β€” their brain can shift into fight, flight, freeze, or fawn mode.

β€œFreeze” looks like shutting down, going blank, or going silent.

It’s a physiological reaction, not a conscious choice.

Inside, they might be feeling fear, shame, or panic, even if outside they seem calm.

Common with people who grew up in volatile homes or have trauma around confrontation.

---

2. They’re Processing

Some people don’t react fast in conflict.

They need time to absorb the challenge, organize their thoughts, or regulate their emotions before responding.

Silence in this case isn’t weakness β€” it’s self-protection from saying something reactive.

Common with introverts, people who think carefully before speaking, or anyone not used to verbal conflict.

---

3. Withdrawal as Control

For others, silence can be a power move β€” a way to keep control without engaging.

By refusing to respond, they may hope to make you feel unstable, guilty, or desperate for their reaction.

This is sometimes called β€œstonewalling.”

Common in toxic or manipulative dynamics.

Anonymous (ID: PPVVGpna) United States No.519178069
>>519177785
4. Fear of Consequences

Some people associate challenging moments with danger β€” like yelling, rejection, or punishment β€” so they shut down to stay safe.

They might have learned: β€œSpeaking up = bad things happen.”

So silence becomes survival.

Common with people who’ve been emotionally or physically punished in the past.

---

5. Conflict Avoidance

They may simply hate confrontation and believe silence will β€œmake it go away.”

This often backfires, but in the moment it feels safer than arguing.

They’re not processing deeply, just avoiding the heat.

Common in people-pleasers or those raised to β€œkeep the peace.”
So, when someone goes quiet after being challenged, it might not be about you at all β€” it might be about what conflict represents to them internally.
You can learn a lot by noticing what kind of quiet it is:
Tense and blank likely fear/freeze.
Calm and steady processing.
Cold or punishing control or stonewalling.
Avoidant and uneasy fear or conflict aversion.
Would you like to tell me a bit more about the situation where someone went quiet on you? I could help you figure out which of these it might be.

I fix lots of shit, my lesson learnt is this. Most things are poorly designed and designed to fail, if the item isn't well designed in the first place then it's going to keep failing and you're wasting time bothering. Buy right, buy once, and maintain it. Trying to fix and maintain random stuff is a fools errand.

Slightly off topic but there's also a physiological factor involved with having repaired items, the same reason nobody wears clothes with patches on them anymore I guess. Nobody is happy with anything less than 100% perfect and they pass judgement on things that aren't. So not only do people not repair things they don't even want things repaired, they want new and flawless, even knowing something has been repaired is too much to handle for many of them.

>For the record: Spirit Cooking is nothing but a little-known (and, measured in her ouvre, a rather throwaway) performance Abramovic did in an Italian gallery in 1996, in which she painted apparent instructions on the white wall with pigs blood. Instructions like: β€œwith a sharp knife cut deeply into the middle finger of your left hand eat the pain.” She also painted a small kind of icon in the corner with the blood too. It’s pretty repulsive and rather luridly aims to shock but it’s also clearly not serious. Abramovic also published a Spirit Cooking cookbook, containing comico-mystical, self-helpy instructions like: β€œspit inside your naval / until the lake is filled / lie motionless / listen to the heartbeat / of a dog.” You’re not really meant to actually do these things. As Abramovic said at London’s Royal Festival Hall last night in a launch event for her new memoir Walk Through Walls, it’s just poetry goyim

Capitalists made shit impossible to fix.

I have bought 2 electric shavers in thr past year, they both have fixed batteries you can't replace. Even if you take them apart properly avoiding breakage of small plastic pins (impossible, you'd just have to glue or tape it back together) by the time you need to replace it they won't make that shape battery anymore or never sold a replacement at all. A few years ago, you used to be able to charge the battery while shaving. So essentially running it on plug-in power. Now they don't run while charging... so when the shitty battery that can't be replaced won't hold a charge, you can't keep using it while just plugged in. You have to throw the whole thing into a landfill and buy a new one.

This type of shit should be illegal. We need anti planned obsolescence and right to repair laws. The whole world will be enshittified and nothing will be usable.

Ok? Compared to going 80k smackeroos in the hole on a new piece of shit which is just as likely to break down and cost 10x as much I can just keep servicing my own shit for a fraction of the cost and hey, it'll at least BE maintained because I can AFFORD to do it since the shit isn't hundreds and thousands a pop.

They usually last for a few years before properly shitting the bed anyways so I can just use the money I saved to get a new one.

You need to do a cost benefit analysis over time.
80k truck new (lasts 2-6 years before grenading, at best) costs $500-$5000 every time it needs to be serviced or something breaks, which being a new piece of shit planned obsolesce money printer will be A LOT. Insurance will cost out the ass because the price tag is so high.

Old honda 5k green papers, $0-$200 depending on the repair, repair is easy to do with shit you get at harbor freight. Has lasted a decade or more, will likely keep chugging another decade+ with basic maintenance. Will only grenade if you rice it out or redline it constantly. Insurance is cheap because if you do total it just get a new one with the savings and only carry minimum insurance lol.

JUST the cost of a new truck alone, never mind any kind of service or insurance could buy you several used cars, or at the very least cover a lifetime of repairs for the used car you DO have until you drive it off a cliff or the frame crumbles apart.

I'm sure some of the cheap parts are shit, but it's worked just fine in my beater thus far and I haven't had any issues. Methinks you don't actually work on cars otherwise you'd understand that it's all the same shit with a different label and value added labor.

You don't need to be a computer engineer to work on modern cars. You just need a code reader. The code reader gives you readings from sensors all over the car. Test the sensor first to make sure it is sending good data, then fix the mechanical issue. The computer just helps you narrow shit down.

Just shut the fuck up already

Not everybody has a driveway. Some people live in apartments. Some people can't afford to buy a giant rolling tool chest and $10,000 worth of tools to change their oil. Yeah I know you change your own oil. Wow you're so cool. Seriously I'm so impressed. Can I suck your dick? Hey, want to bang my sister? But not everybody wants to get dirty and risk their lives sliding under a car for some routine maintenance. For those of us whose time is valuable, we'll get it done at a shop where they have skilled techs and valuable equipment. Yeah I know it's more expensive. It's also more convenient. Do you buy eggs at the store or do you have your own flock of chickens? Do you bake your own bread or buy it from the store? Did you build your own house? Did you run your own plumbing out to the street? There are limits to DIY you retard.

The catch is some car manufacturers have extra shit they literally made up themselves, like Mercedes has stars on top of OBD2. Most cars also have a canbus now, which once again you can get into for cheap these days.
The cheap OBD2 scan tools can't into abs brakes so you might not be able to remotely cycle your antilock brake pump to properly bleed it, but red ecks just find a gravel hill and make that thing cycle like it's life depends on it

There's some nice open source scan tools in development these days.

He lives in a commie block and the building owner doesn't want to have giant stains on his porcelain white parking spots.
Also the sound of 200 peasants constantly working on their shit boxes will make the commie block and unmarketable place because nobody wants to deal with that shit noise 24/7.
Also people, like you, will tear a car apart and leave it sitting there for months or years making zero progress on actually fixing it so the place starts looking like a junkyard.

Even in our cities on privately owned land we will get harassed by the government because neighbors complain. I do it anyway because it's my property

One time I let a guy use a spot I had to do some basic work, he tore his shitbox apart and did fuck all to it for 2 years and it was constantly in my way. Eventually had to have it towed out.

He lives in a shit hole like this.
Now imagine if every parking spot sounded like a NASCAR pitstop 24/7 and you needed to get some sleep to go to your dead end job in 6 hours.
It's the same reason you can't have dogs in places like that

It's fine if it uses some oil. It consumes less if you use 10W-40 semisynthetic and use an engine heater in the winter.
I had a few Audi Quattro V6 automatics from early 2000s and they also have this issue, but it's not a problem because 10W-40 semisynthetic is cheap as soap.
The other issue with them are front axle bushings and end links, but they're easy af to change, no need to even lift it up. They also sell improved kits for the front, as this is a known issue, so once you have those replaced, you don't have to do the operation again every year.
Otherwise never had an issue with them, only one time the immobilizer turned on because the battery voltage went under 12V. I didn't know what was wrong so I spent a week with a multimeter looking at the issue, starting with the fuses, fuel pump, wires and such, then eventually googled some German website and figured out the immobilizer turns on if you have low voltage. Charged the battery overnight and it started just by touching the key. Good cars.

Ahh yeah. I dislike doing brakes aswell. Stuff is always rusted shut, things break. The new pads dont go back far enough in the restingplace and than you cant get the disk in between. I dislike it

The V6 from early 2000s doesn't have turbo. It still has some 170 horses and AWD so all the Beemer guys are coping and seething in the winter (because we get a lot of snow and ice). If you don't get snow you can do with 2WD models.
Also, do not get the turbo model with the belt driven transmission, every Audi guy ever say that transmission is utter shit.

Camrys are great vehicles, i recommend any early 2000s model Toyota Camry is reliable and easy to work on. I just don’t recommend getting one with rear drum brakes. Rust just depends on where you live it’s a wet area you’re going to have more rust especially by the ocean.

You always should spend the extra 60 bucks to get the better version. There's a Finnish model somewhere online that is basically a laptop software and does everything and then some. 100-120 bucks for it is actually a good investment.

They take the 95 or 92 that has ethanol in it. Price is usually 1.5 to 2.0 but everyone always waits for the cheapest price and gets a full tank.

The early 2000 V6 come in 2.4, 2.8 and 3.0 and I've had them all. The 2.4 V6 takes around 7-8 liters / 100.
Combined is around 10-12 depending if it's winter or not.
City only will be up to 15 / 100 but we kind of have walkable cities here and safe public transportation, so I've rarely done cities only.
The 2.4 model is also the one with 170 hp the bigger ones have more.

Yea, they call the cops all the time and endlessly bitch to the city.
It's illegal but so is the stuff they do so fuck them.

The apartment manager of the other guys shitty apartment would actually have to do something about that though because the other tenants would just claim brrach of contact and mice out and they couldn't rent the unit got high price

I typically use the electric impacts instead of pneumatic, but even those get annoying fast. I knew another neighbor that scraps cars and his cordless reciprocating saw 3 times a day every day got real fucking old fast.
