I was not 100% convinced on this stuff but I saw it happening sometimes. Then one day I go outside and they'd made a complete square checkerboard out of the sky.
I starred at for a good while and realized yea they're certainly doing something up there.

I don't think they would use big special purpose planes. that's a massive logistical feat. it might be added to the fuel line, or at the exhaust.
think about how much smoke a car makes if there's the tiniest bit of oil leaking into the combustion. something like that. then it's just added to whatever flights are decided upon.
