I asked it to calculate the average amount of time lost to get the life expended by getting to locations slower, 65mpg down to 45mph highway. It averaged 24 years lost of time per life saved. When you are driving from Arizona into Colorado there is two ways. You go north into Utah or you go east into NM. It found that going faster in fact did not increase likelihood of collision. The biggest factor was actually car going different speeds. Also noted was that there was a bimodal distribution of speeds i.e. a normal distribution with two humps instead of one. Most people were driving what ever speed they felt was safe regardless of what the speed limit was and some people were driving closer to the speed limit. The obvious conclusion is that speed limits actually increase the likelihood of collisions but they didn't go that far. If NA had a decent driver certification program that wasn't just jeets accepting bribes to license jeets then it would be fine. Remove speed limits, make tests harder, re-certify every few years so grandma doesn't keep driving into her 90s and for good measure take the vote away from the elderly and women so they don't try to bring speed limits back.
