Honestly, you’re probably right. Mexico needs a “Great Man of History” if it is to have any hope of being saved.

At least you’re much more prosperous and stable than any other country of significance in all of Latin America. There are a few small nations that are nicer, but they aren’t big enough to dominate. If the US and Canada didn’t exist, Mexico would be the unchallenged dominant power of the entirety of the Americas.

I've read a little Mexican history. It seems there's always been a tension between the elitist political power in Mexico City and rogue elements in the northern regions coming from more "common" people.
From my perspective, it seems like the cartels and CdMx have worked out a sort of practical truce. The central government leaves the cartels alone and the cartels prevent/redirect any serious political challenges to the government. Essentially both sides run their own rackets against the average citizen and don't challenge each other directly.
Do you think this is accurate?
