It's an old-timey fireplace like the one in the OP pic. The municipal govt implemented an ordinance that limits the amount of soot (Feinstaub) that a fireplace may produce. Only expensive modern ovens can pass this test because theay already have integrated filters.
But the real problem is the Schornsteinfeger. He arrives once every year to every German household to inspect the heating systems and chimneys. So if you keep using the fireplace, he will notice this during the inspection and then report it to the authorities.
You can not refuse entry to your home to the Schornsteinfeger. If you do, you'll be fined and eventually he will bring the polic to force entry into your property.

Parents own a house in country that is located in small valley. Once winter starts air is so bad in the evening and morning because of people heating with wood that it is literally unhealthy to go out at that time. Heating modern 300m2 house is less than 200€ a month with gas and less with heat pump and these retards are shitting air for everyone else saving maybe 50€ a month despite most of them having cars costing more than 50k. After checking on sensor how much it pollutes the air parents stopped using their fireplace altogether. If you dont believe check it yourself, air quality can go from 20 particles per m3 to 250 in 3 minutes if theres no wind.
