I'm finally sober for the 1st time in my adult life (from, at various times, caffeine, nicotine, cocaine, heroin, alcohol,weed, etc)
16 years ago, had a year white knuckling then slipped and car crashed and arrested. Then another year of slamming coffee, then slipped, wrecked another car, then 3 years, same fucking thing. Plus kindling so the WDs never let up and just got worse no matter how many years between binges.
Took up kratom, piracetam and previous in 2016, did that for 6 years, and was much more productive than ever before in
life but still a drug addict. Last two, three
years, only weed and caffeine and
nicotine, then only weed, now I'm sober
and the most miserable person on earth.

How do people get addicted to alcohol? I've never understood it. It makes you dumb and depressed, and everyone in my Irish family who drinks becomes a violent and very unfriendly person when they use it. I got addicted to nicotine, modafinil, ADHD meds, but never ethanol. It causes cancer too because it gets metabolised into acetaldehyde. Just stop drinking it and use something else to chill out

Alcoholics Anonymous works. You don't have to become a full cult member that goes to every meeting (I haven't gone since I was court ordered) to gain skills and knowledge. Other people's stories CAN be enlightening. Sometimes, a man just needs to hear "yo, I fucked up WAY worse than you, and look at me now." Being court ordered to use a breathalyzer 5 times a day for 6 months helps too.

How u nuggets think u got too far? I can drink, but I just kinda like the the process of sipping smith, and I can't just use water or smth. I never saw the point in drinking outside of social situations. Alcohol makes me happy and active, so there’s no sense in drinking at home or by myself if I’m not going out or something, so I never developed a habit of using it to relax or whatever.

No matter what I smoke indica or sativa it blows me away. When I smoked every day with 2g it would last me 1 entire week while I see others smoking more than that in 1 single joint.

Tolerance is the real kicker. I need 10~ drinks a night to get drunk. Any less and it was pointless even having a sip. Too much and I'll be conked out by 1am. Never used to be this way, I could make do nursing 3-5 drinks over a 6 hour period. Only way to reset is to hard stop for MONTHS, but then I only get a couple days of 3-5 being enough and the tolerance just returns.

Not everyone has that reaction + there's a heavy social pressure to join in and get drunk when everyone else is. I think once the body gets addicted it can be hard to stop.

Personally my genes make me tired after drinking which I absolutely detest. Maybe I'll drink a little at gatherings to get a slight buzz but nothing more than that.
